Hey. I have a chance to buy a G&L ASAT special Custom. Looks cool. Has a contour back! He put some vintage vibe custom p90 pickups.? Never heard of them. But original pickups come with it.
Anyone play one? Or these pickups?
Thanks! This one sold at a NAMM show is maple with black binding.

I had an ASAT Special with the G&L MFD pickups, and it was a great sounding guitar. I've just never been able to bond with a Tele design. Yet. I ended up giving it to a friend who is a pro musician and makes his living playing. His house got burglarized and they took his Strat. Luckily they left the Martin and his other gear behind, but that was his only electric so I turned him onto my ASAT.

I bought an ASAT with the MFD pickups back in ‘92 and it’s one of my top favorites ever since and it will not be sold. Plays great, sounds great, not as twangy as a Tele, great distinction between the neck and bridge pickups. I highly recommend trying one to see how you like it.

A friend has one and he’s very happy with it. It’s usually his favorite guitar. I’m not the biggest Tele guy- I’m not wild about it, but it’s respectable.

I found a USA ASAT Special at a pawn shop six or so years back. It's a very resonant guitar. Plays great and sounds great. They aren't a classic tele, but it's a nice player and gets you close. Your talking about different pickups of which I have no experience. I have three G&L's and love the way all of them play. Great fit and finish and they all sound great. It so happens I went into a local store today to play a used Therapy. They had a used G&L Legacy w/ dual humbuckers that could be split. It also was an exceptional player. If you can't tell I'm a big G&L fan.

I have an ASAT Classic and love it, but I replaced the MFD pups with Lollar Vintage T's and could not be happier!

I've owned two US ASAT Specials (and 4-5 other G&Ls) over the years. Both were great guitars that eventually fell victim to GAS induced turnover through no fault of theirs. One was a maple board semi-hollow and one was a rosewood board solid body. Both had that great G&L flake finish and matching headstocks. Very cool guitars. I like the big MFDs in the special much better then the strat\tele sized versions.

I have been all over my strats lately and seems as if that would be my go to...and think should I sell my tele for $...pick it up and start playing it and...nah!...fun lil axe to play...cant do it.

Currently own two ASAT Classics-one new since 1992 and the other a more recent build (2012 I think). Both are exceptional Tele style guitars. Although both stock one has the MFD pickups and the other G&Ls AlNiCos. I prefer the thicker tone of the MFDs but again, both play well and sound great. The one you're looking into sounds promising. I'd give it a go and see if it works for you. I'm on the hunt for another blonde classic S which has a deleted F hole (semihollow) and a total of seven pick up wiring options. Miss the one I gave up in a fit of gas.

Miss the one I gave up in a fit of gas. This perfectly describes 95% of my gear sales.

It was a NAMM custom . From A year ago. I like the black binding on it! Comes with 2 sets of pickups. The originals MFDs and some vintage vibe p-90s. I had a fender tele in butterscotch blond, but it hurt my ribs playing it Cause of the slab body. This one is contoured on the back so should be comfortable! I hope! Ill give a players report once Its i me hands!

Got the G&l Haven’t plugged in yet , im working like mad ! But the guitar is light weight! And that contour on the back is so comfortable! Probably won’t plug in till the weekend!
The case it came in is rectangular but narrow And small. Very cool case! Never seen one like it. Im glad because I don’t like those big rectangular cases.
Feels nice and rings well!
Ill post some pics once I have more time!

I have one similar to the pic, but is contoured and olympic white with tortise pic guard. Love the neck...satin finish so my hands slide up and down easier, plus the neck profile works for my hands. I do like the MFD pick ups more than standard fender tele classics; more oomph with them. you'll like it I'm guessing.
