I love my therapy. the longer I have it, the more i love it. but, even with fresh tubes in it and everything operating fine, sometimes i have a hard time believing it's 35 watts. dont get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all, but I've owned a Vox ac30 , rated at 30 watts, and 2 Maz jr's, rated at a conservative 18 watts, and they both seem twice as loud as my Therapy, anybody else perceive this, or am I just getting loony?

I've noticed the Therapy does seem to be a quieter 30 watts than some other amps. Maybe not actually, but in my ears perception. I wonder if it's because of the big bottle tubes it uses as opposed to the EL-84s in the Maz, AC-30 etc. which are more piercing. Or maybe the smooth nature of the amp as opposed to more cutting voiced amps. Or maybe we're both loony.

I don't know guys. My Therapy will rattle teeth with stock tubes and running a 1x12 open back G12H30. But like Paul Simon said, "One man's ceiling is another man's floor"...

I’m with Dave. Unattenuated, mine will cause damage. I finally invested in a Powerstation so I can run mine with EL34s pushed hard into Marshall land.

I played a used one in a local store today. I found it quite potent. Not sure it was as loud as my Antidote, but it didn't seem far off. Near the time it was first out (within six months or so of release) I played one at CME. I thought it anemic at the time. Then I would read everyone's rave reviews about it and wondered what I missed. So I chalked it up to having tested one with a bad tube. After today I'm a believer and am trying to figure how this is going to find its way into my home. I played it today with volume at 1:00 - 2:00 and Master at 8:30 - 9:00. I didn't dare turn the guitar's volume up all the way. Killer amp.

Mine is also about where I would expect it to be volume wise for 35 watts. Perfect clean basement volume with the volume at 10:00 and Master at 9:00 through a 2x12. I don't think I've ever opened it up past half way since I've owned it as I no longer play out.

just thinking out loud, but i wonder if cathode bias 6L6s lose more wattage than EL84s, and those other amps might have more preamp stages and/or possibly don't lose as much signal in their tone stacks, but i'm not sure how much the preamp stages affect the perceived output. if you run the tone controls up higher does it get noticeably louder?

The Therapy tone stack will silence the guitar if you turn all three eq knobs to 0. It does affect gain but after a point the amp doesn't output more power, it's just more focused in the direction the eq points to.
As far as output power, it depends on the designer's choice of the amp's bias point. You can get full output from either fixed or cathode bias.
Doc rates his amps VERY conservatively. You can believe that the amp is putting out what he says it is.

Not sure it was as loud as my Antidote, The Antidote is one LOUD amp when you turn it up.

Turn the master all the way up and get your volume from the regular volume knob. Basically that will be like having a non master volume amp. Do this and you will feel the 35 watts.
