Is there a chart that shows which preamp tubes affect which part of the amp? Do the first 2 preamp tubes affect the volume?

Well, yes and no... they all will affect volume, in a sense that if one of them goes bad you might not have any volume. [Short and somewhat silly answer.] Doc does provide tube info on his amps here: drzamps.com/support/tube-info/If you're asking about which tubes might allow you get a little bit more or a little bit less volume out of the amp, then that's a tricky question because "volume" is controlled by not just the tubes, but also the output components, and also the speaker. Unless the amp is being significantly modified from its stock form, messing with tubes will more likely affect tone rather than volume. However, is there something more specific that you're looking for from the amp, like more/less clean headroom before breakup, or louder/quieter overall stage volume?

Sorry Mark, I should of been more specific in my question! I saw this in the "Getting to know the MAZ 18" thread and was wondering if this layout would be the same for the Z Plus just with different tubes. The Maz 18 Jr. Reverb Model: V1=ECC83-S (Preamp tube) V2=ECC83-S (Preamp tube) V3=12AT7 (1/2 used as a driver before the reverb tank, 1/2 used by reverb summer.) Reverb tank info ( Older: Accutronics 8AB3A1B ), ( Newer: P-RMOD-8AB2A1B ). V4=12AX7 (Used in a dual Triode parallel configuration as the Reverb recovery stage.) V5=Sovtek 12AX7-LPS (Phase Inverter tube) V6=JJ EL84 (Power tube) V7=JJ EL84 (Power tube) V8=Sovtek 5AR4 (Rectifier tube)

I sort of assume that the Z-Plus's preamp circuit is similar to that of the MAZ Reverb... but it would take Doc himself to really confirm that. I'm gonna guess "yes" that each equivalent tube position in the MAZ Reverb and the Z-Plus handle the same duties. But again... just an educated guess.

There should be a tube type chart on the inside of your cab: V1, V2, etc... And then here's some more info specific to the amp if you scroll down the page: drzamps.com/support/tube-info/

Thanks for the replies. Let me rephrase my question. Would this be correct for the Z Plus tube layout? Please be kind...I'm not an electronics expert! LOL!
V1 and V2 affects gain stage V3 and V4 affects reverb V5 affects phase inverter

That's probably pretty close, I'd guess. 1 & 2 probably "tone stack" type stuff, 3 probably "reverb send," and 4 probably "reverb return/recovery." However, also keep in mind that each 12AX7 (and 12AT7) is 2 triodes in 1, which means half of the tube can have one function and the other half can have another. So, Doc may have a trick or two up his sleeve there...

After reading all the above I'm still not clear which tubes affect the reverb. I'm thinking about re-tubing my Plus and since I never use reverb is it necessary to replace the tubes for reverb? Also, just wondering, has anyone else re-tubed their Plus and if so, how many hours do they estimate on the original tubes? I probably have done 75-80 gigs with mine and rarely use it at home.

I just looked at the tube chart in my Z-Plus combo. V3 is a 12AT7 and that's usually a tube reserved for reverb in Doc's amps. I suspect that's your main reverb tube. I would replace the power tubes but I think I'd keep the preamp tubes unless there is actually an issue with noise, etc.
