You'll see from a previous thread of mine that I went with TAD Highgrades for my preamp tubes. They are still running great. Tone is killer and verb is quiet. Because Doc said it was OK to try, I've also run a NOS RCA 5V4 rectifier and RCA Blackplates as my power tubes. The amp was great before. Now the angels sing. Great sag and low end while still retaining the Z Plus shimmer.

I didn't really like the amp when overdriving the front end. I just attributed it to the 2nd and 4th harmonics everyone was talking about. Turns out I had a bad 12AX7 in V2 from the day I received it! I have replaced V1 with a NOS Mullard CV4004. I don't really notice much difference. A little smoother I guess. Tried an RCA 5V4 rectifier, but went back to the stock 5AR4. I like the attack better with the stock tube.

Docs tubes/selection are always the best that amps probably going to sound...I don't poopoo nos tubes till tried and true...and I do hear differences in the nos tubes...and most of the time its just different. Do I need to stop spending money trying them...well yeah!

I tried different ones but ended up with the stock tubes. Except for the rectifier, I put in a Sylvania 5AR4.

I decided not to sell mine, it sounds too nice. I have a G12M 65 in there now in a LT Combo and it sounds good, but I have a Tone Tubby Purple coming in and that sounds really nice in that amp.
I think that I will put in a nice Rectifier and let it ride with the original tubes. Scratch that I put in some nice 6v6's from my local tube dealer, they are called Nesstone Tubes, not sure of the manufacturer.
That amp sounds so nice it's just a small speaker tweak to get the tone I want.
