I have a much loved EZG50 and I've been gigging with it for years… without any issues what so ever. But I havent used it for a few months as I'm playing bass in another band. I fired it up the other day and there was a weird flub sound when I took it off standby, then there was a constant hum and whatever I play sounds a bit distorted and almost octave pedal like on certain notes.
Is this just valves or something else? The ones I can see are all light up still?
I have no reliable amp techs nearby... so hoping it's just valves. Weird that it took a few years of hammering without any issue?! Maybe someone else used it without me knowing!

Always suspect tubes first. That said, sounds like it may be a filter cap. Or a bad solder joint on a flter cap.

caps and tubes wear out under normal use (and maybe non-use for caps). resistors can burn out if a tube goes bad. eventually any amp will have a component give out.

Not a lot of info to form a diagnosis, but from what you said, powered up , hum, distortion, I would guess a bad 6L6. Failed on power up , needs a new matched 6L6 set.

Cool thanks guys, and especially the Dr! I will order a new matched set from Watford, or shall I just order the whole set they do for the EZG50? I've never replaced the valves since I've owned the amp (About 6 years).
Also Dr the reverb on this thing is the best reverb i've ever heard - thanks!

I'm never for wholesale swapping out complete sets of tubes to solve a single problem. I would start with the 6L6's first , if they are 6 years old a new set will be like a new set of strings on your favorite guitar. It is possible a preamp tune may be bad, but start with the 6L6's try to get a matched set of Tung Sol's at a Medium gain range. If hum persists them try to swap a good 12AX7 one at a time from V 1 over.
