Been meaning to ask this. From the owners manual and various videos it seems volume one adds more highs and volume two adds a darker flavor...
Is this what you are hearing??
I’m hearing the exact opposite. Volume one, closest to the input jack, is darker and thicker. Volume two adds more high end bite.
Am I confused??
Doesn’t matter to me, because the amp sounds better every day. And again, I think these speakers are a big part of the magic of this amp.
What say you.....??
Doc??

I agree volume two adds more bite with single coils. I generally run my volume two lower than volume one.

I agree as well. Just tried it to verify. V2 was noticeably brighter with my #1 Strat.

OK guys you'll need to check again. Volume 1 is coupled through a .01 uF Orange drop cap, while Volume 2 is coupled through a Jupiter .022 uF cap. Volume 1 couples more upper Mid response, Volume 2 couples a more full frequency response. The difference you are hearing is do the different Bright caps on the volume 1 & 2 pots. So at lower volume settings it will appear to pass more highs through Volume 2 than Volume 1. But only at lower settings , listen for fullness in the lower registers at higher volume settings , not just the high end passed at lower volume settings.

Thanks for the clarification Doc. I’ll try that later after the neighbors wake up! the thing is, it seems us mere mortals don’t/can’t play as loud as Joe does. Maybe that’s my problem. i know what this amp was designed for. It takes pedals great. I don't suppose there would ever be a master volume mod for the Z-Master?......would there? *Ducking under the table* 😬

That's why when I gigged it and it sounded a bit bright, I upped V2 slightly and it took care of it. Thanks Doc!
