My Princeton Reverb was acting up, and the shopowner offered this beauty up for trade for a really really good price... left the amp took the guitar. 2018, barely any signs of play. All the case candy and hang tag too. Can’t wait to try it with my maz jr! Was that a Princeton Re-Issue? My gosh what a trade

Those early 70s Marshalls were frequently modded by their owners in ways that make you cry (in the bad way). Wonder about this one - that price is on the low side.

The Marshall is from his personal collection, he’s selling everything he owns to get the shop up and off the ground. I notice he hasn’t listed this on the site yet, but you can always call him. Cosmetics are rough but I’m pretty sure it’s just the tolex.

Nice new/used Strat! I recently picked up a similar-condition ("used" but never touched) Fender American Original off Reverb... it's the '60s Jazzmaster from that same series. Very nice, very cool.. I'm very happy with mine.

Oh it’s definitely why he wanted it. He’s been open two weeks and sold two silverface princeton reverbs, haha. All it needed was a reverb tank. It was just the third time the amp had broken on me, and at that point I’m ready for something new. Still have the maz jr nr, drri, tweed bassman, tweed deluxe. I’m not hurting in the amp department.

That's a sweet looking Strat! How's it sound??? Good! Still getting pickup height adjusted. It’s different from my classic 60’s with callaham bridge and EJ pickups. A bit darker, not as biting on the bridge. Mellow would be a good way of putting it. Cleans are excellent but I like it dirty too. Need more time with it, been out straight busy since I traded for it.

That's a sweet looking Strat! How's it sound??? Played it a good chunk tonight. Still getting used to it (I almost always play les pauls). Intonation was off a bit on several strings, got that adjusted by ear and it sounds much better to me already. The neck is beefy. I’ve got howling wolf sized hands, so I appreciate that. This one fights me a bit, not as “home plate” as my tele or my les paul. But it puts a smile on my face like they do. Someone mucked with the wiring a bit, they added a tone control for the middle as well as the bridge. Fine by me, nice to be able to control all three pickups.

Still diving into it. Much much better with the intonation brought into close enough, lol. Played it back to back with the MIM 60’s today. Biggest difference is that the low strings are more defined, less muddy. The E string just rings like a bell. Maybe the MIM needs the pups lowered a bit? Not sure if that would help. The MIM seems hotter to me.
Sounded really good with the Maz JR. the boost set half way, master cranked a chunk and same with the volume gave great OD tones but cleaned up with a touch of the foot pedal. Strats have always struck me as high-fi compared to Les Pauls, and this one is the same. But it reacts really well to the tone and volume knobs. The AO makes me want to play the blues, bb king and muddy style. The MIM makes me play fast and loose, more SRV or rockabilly a la strat cats. I thought I’d sell the MIM, but I’m not sure.
And it’s a real beauty. Makes me pause opening the case (it’s still got the new nitro smell too!). Looking forward to breaking it in. Hope the neck isn’t sticky once warmer weather comes.

How are the pickups adjusted on yours? When I got my Custom Shop '64 Journeyman Strat it was set up beautifully, played just right. The pickups were staggered with the bass side of all three angled down quite a bit so the high strings were closer. The pickups are the staggered pole piece type, and the bass side pole pieces are higher on the bass side of the pickup, while the high E string pole is just below the pickup cover. Whatever the reason, it's the best sounding Strat I've ever played, and all my buddies that have played it say the same...so whoever did the setup really got it right. I'm curious how yours was set up, along with anyone else that's bought a new Strat lately.

It came with the pups quite low - I raised it up to Erlewine’s recommendation and it was too high. I did drop the bass side lower to get rid of magnet drag on the string.

It’s probably just me, but I’ve always thought Messrs. Erlewine’s and Fralin’s pickup heights were way too high for me. Regardless of the pickup brand, I’ve tended to find setting them low gave me the sound I was after.

Last update for now. Dropped back in and my friend finished the intonation and switched it to a fresh set of 10’s (he had put 9’s on it originally). Huge difference in playability for me, the 9’s were too spaghetti compared to what I’m used to.
I also stopped by my normal shop to pick up a project. i got to test the 50’s versus a 2012 ‘56 av and a brand new 50’s style nash. The 56 was gorgeous. White blonde ash body with a very figured neck. The nash was a full on relic.
Playability, the 50’s won for me. The 56 felt a bit tight on the neck. The nash was a sanded neck, which I don’t like. The 50’s was also by far the largest neck shape wise which fits my big hands well.
Sound wise, they were all good. Like picking your favorite chocolate. Can’t go wrong. The 50’s slotted right in the middle. 56 a bit weak, nash lollars hot. The 50’s felt the most versatile.
All a long way to say that it’s nice when you’re happy with a purchase.
