Been using the Elixir Nanoweb strings only the last 15 years or so. Now I'd like to try smt new.
Anybody played both D'Addario NYXL & Ernie Ball Paradigm strings? How do you like & rate them & on what grounds?? Looking for a rich, loud tone.

I bought a 3 pack of NYXL's and I've been really underwhelmed. I can't tell a difference in tone or life. They're nice strings, but not worth it to me. I used to use Elixirs when they first came out. I got a bunch of sets free because the guy who invented Elixir strings and I were life long friends up until his death a couple of years ago. I liked them but never really thought they were worth the extra money. I buy 10 packs at a time and change them when I start seeing the frets wear through the D string wrap...that's usually when they won't intonate anymore.

What Dave said. I've been using regular D'Addarios for a couple years. A few months ago I decided to try the NYXLs. I couldn't tell much difference. To me, they're not worth the up charge. Lately, I've been using these : www.stringjoy.com/ They are a small string maker in Nashville. They're a bit more than regular D'Addarios, but less than NYXLs or Elixirs. They sound great and last longer than D'Addarios.

Cheers everybody! Found an European dealer for Stringjoy also.
How about Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt:"Cobalt provides a stronger magnetic relationship between pickups and strings than any other alloy previously available." Any truth in that?

I, like Dave, buy the regular D’Addarios 10 packs at a time and normally get them for a little more that $3.00 per set.

I too got a 3 pack of NYXLs. Can't say they were anything special, maybe a tad brighter, but not worth the money. I did recently try DR Pure Blues, which are a nickel string. Very nice, but again on the spendy side.

Hi Russel. I doubt if Stringjoys are going to last 3 times as long as D'Addarios. I usually get about a month out of D'Addarios. The Stringjoys have been on my strat for about 6 weeks, and haven't gone dead yet. The 1st & 2nd string are holding up pretty good. Still tune and intonate well. Also, the young man that started Stringjoy is friendly, answers emails and generally gave me good customer service. Here's his info page : www.stringjoy.com/about/

I've been using EB's Cobalts since they came out, and I am really happy with them. They last longer and preserve that brightness of the new string for a longer time (IMHO). I've also tried D'Addario NYXLs and I liked the Cobalts better. Of course, YMMV. Good luck with your tone quest!! Tons of tone!!

I'm super used to the D'Addario XL's. I play unplugged electric a lot at home, a real lot. I didn't like the acoustic sound of any of the modern strings I tried. I really don't mind changing strings. I find it sorta therapeutic and It also gives me a chance to look the guitar over.
So it's back to the old standbys for me.

Been using Cobalts for years. Excellent strings. Perform as promised. Got a set of NYXLs for free with a pedal purchase a few months ago. Very very underwhelming, IMO.
