I recently picked up a tube swapping amp and have most of tubes it can take other than a KT-88 and an extra 5Y3.
Might go NOS. Not sure where to start though.....
For New Tubes I typically go JJ, but would you recommend Gold Lion?

I am seeing some Sovtek KT-88's for $20 rather than than typical $45+ for new JJ's.

I believe Doc uses the (new production) JJ KT88 in his current Surgical Steel. Otherwise, you're probably looking at Chinese tubes unless you go NOS. Though, if your amp only needs 1 tube, you might have good luck with NOS price/availability since you don't need a matched pair--this might be a good route to go.
Same for 5Y3's... probably either the JJ or NOS.

NOS 5Y3's are so cheap and plentiful I would not even consider anything else.

5Y3's are the only tube I would consider buying used from Ebay. They are dirt cheap and I have bought several that I keep just for spares and to give customers a cheap alternative for replacement. I've never had a problem with one. I think you can still find them for less than $20.
