So after playing a ratti the other day, I fell in love, and I'm gassing hard for one now. I saw this one on Reverb and was wondering what the deal is with the plugged effects loop jacks? Did Doc just use a different chassis or did the previous owner modify it himself?

I can't say for sure. If I remember right I saw some JAZ 20/40s come like that. Some had loops, some didn't, but used the same rear faceplate. I think my old MAZ Reverb was like that too as the NR had a loop and reverb model didn't but shared the same faceplate. I think he used the same rear faceplate for several amp models in those days. If I'm off on that someone here will know for sure.
Looks like the power cord is missing the grommet on that one. Cord should be inspected for wear and grommet installed.

The Mazerati never had an effects loop. I believe this amp chassis size was used for multiple amp models, some which had effects loops. Doc uses the same chassis as the base for his amps which I would think keep the costs down and the efficiency there. Nothing to worry about.

Have the guy turn it on, pop the covers off and then fish around inside with an extended paper clip. Let us know what happens.

I pulled the trigger on this one. Replacing the strain relief grommet is not a big deal, since I'll want to open it up anyway and have a look. My fingers are crossed that the missing grommet is all that's wrong with it.

As stated when it was up for sale originally, most likely it came from the factory with the plugs on the back. If its been for sale since February, hope you got a good deal on it!

It was originally listed at around $1300 I think--I paid about two-thirds of that. I might have paid a bit too much considering the condition--I won't know how good a deal I got until I fire it up. I suppose the worst case scenario is it goes back to Ohio for repairs/tweaks. I was looking for something akin to the normal channel of a non-top boost AC30/6 with the 12AX7 not the EF86. From my research and the clips I've seen, it seemed the closest of what's available. I've heard it's a bit dark, which makes me wonder about speaker choice. I currently have a Celestion Heritage G12-65 in my convertible cab. I love that speaker because it sound great and shaves some decibels off those "Z-watts," but it's fairly dark itself.

I have a 8 ohm 1x12 Celestion Vox Alnico Blue in my Mazerati combo - sounds pretty Voxy to me. I like it.

Just to close the loop here, I received the amp pictured above today. It sounds terrific and exactly what I was hoping for. I own (and have owned) several Z amps, but never a Ghia/Mazerati type. I was blown away by how easy it was to dial in a tone with only one knob. I simply plugged in my strat, rolled the knob all the way to the left, and turned it up until I heard the bass creep in (about 10 o clock). It sounded perfectly balanced.

That is exactly the beauty of the Dr Z 2 knob amps. The Ghia is similar. Set your volume, turn your tone knob to taste and rock out. No fiddling around with knobs.

Glad you’re enjoying the Rati! It’s a killer amp and It’s treated me very well over years.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but it seems like the proper context to post this update. I was the one who ended up purchasing this Mazerati with the plugged holes. I recently sent it back to Don at Dr. Z repairs for a QA and the installation of a half-power switch. Don tried the latter but wasn't pleased with the results. He instead used one of the plugged holes to install a cut control in addition to a master volume. Both definitely add to the amp's versatility. The cut control is especially nice with bridge-position single coils. Don also fixed the power cord grommet--I tried but could never find one that fit properly. I look forward to gigging with it soon.

Congrats!
The reason I sold that amp and stuck with the Stang's was the availability of the "Cut" knob.
So it sounds like you now have the best of both worlds!

We really are lucky. Imagine being able to send a Deluxe Reverb back to Leo Fender for QA or a mod.
Don retubed the amp with two 12ax7s instead of the original spec 5751 in the phase inverter spot (although there seems to be some eternal question of whether or not the 5751 goes in V1 or V2). The two 12ax7s are a dream with a Strat but perhaps a bit brash with Tele. I've tried every combination of preamp tubes including two 5751s, and I can see the advantage of each depending on the particular guitar and style of music.
