Hey Strat People - Last night I wired my Strat up with a blender (no load) pot and boy what a great modification it is! With the blend off, the usual 5 way stuff is all the same. The blender dials in a bit of bridge when on neck or opposite, a bit of neck when on bridge. In the 2 and 4 position, the blend brings all PUs together. Tons of tones. The remaining tone knob becomes a master tone and it really just makes sense. Plus, the tone control makes the middle by itself PU way more useable. Bonus. Worth a try if yer curious...

I had something similar done to a previous G&L Skyhawk I had. My tech suggested I have a 3 way switch put in and have the middle pickup isolated to one of the tone knobs (which became a volume knob). He also wired it so that in the middle position on the 3 way it combined the neck and the bridge but you could bring up the middle pickup as wanted. This way I still had the existing Strat pickup options plus a few more. My problem is I'm a set it and forget it guy so I didn't utilize the option very much

My Grosh is wired with a blend on the second tone knob. I have to admit I don't use it all that much but I suspect that its usefulness depends a lot on the pickups. The 5 way plus volume and one tone knob is usually all I need.

I've got a MIJ Strat with the blender. Works great.

I have a blender control knob on all three of my Strats. IMHO, it should be standard on all Strats! As always, YMMV.

Thanks for the info gbowman. I think I'm going to try one of these for my strat. I've never been happy with my bridge single-coil pup. I've tried several single coil pickups and a couple single-coil sized humbuckers, but couldn't gel with any of them.

I put the Fralin Vintage Hot set on my ‘81 Strat (the prewired pickguard set). I had the choice of “normal” wiring or blender pot. After going back and forth I opted for the blender pot. It works as advertised.
That said, I don’t find that I use it much at all - and candidly I’m thinking of going back to “normal” to allow specific control of the bridge pickup tone.
The pickups are good, but I’ve found them to squeal if they are raised to the “normal” starting height below the strings (1/8” treble side 1/16” bass side) - I’ve had to lower them all pretty significantly.
