Hey guys I’m looking for some advice. When I hit my cure hard with some overdrive the speaker gives me a fuzz sound (not a good fuzz) when the notes ring out. Could my speaker be blown or something? I’ve only taken the amp out of the house once and it’s 2 years old. I’ve tried different cables and even a wireless system but it still has the issue. Should I just buy another Z 12 speaker?

How does it sound with the master and volume cranked but without any pedal distortion going into the front end?

Welcome to the Forum - a lot of good people and information here. Now to your problem - Did you always have this problem or is it something new? If new problem, what did you change? If you could record a sound clip it would be easier to help you out.

Might not be the speaker.
I agree a soundclip would be helpful.

Yes, welcome to the forum!
Do you have another speaker to try in there to rule out a problem with the Z 12? Are they the original tubes? You can also take a pencil and tap each tube while the amp is on (and volume turned down but not off) to see if one may be a microphonic. Keep us posted on your results.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I don’t have an extra speaker. But I’ve got a buddy who has an extra cab that I’m going to try in a few days. I’ll let you know.

Do you put lots of hours on it? It could be a power tube getting ready for the big sleep. And welcome to the forum! We'll help you sort it out.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of knowledge here, so we should be able to get you up and running.
This is a process of elimination. Jon has a great suggestion above....take the pedals out of the equation and crank it loud and clean. That will tell you if your speaker is bad.
The guys are right about the tubes....even brand new tubes are suspect and can easily be the culprit.

I was thinking this too. I'm willing to bet it's the tubes and not the speaker.
Are you sure the speaker is secure to the cabinet? It's possible the nuts have worked their way loose after two years. They don't need to be really really tight (that would bend the metal speaker frame) but tight enough so they don't come loose. If one (or more) are loose, it could be the speaker frame buzzing or the nuts buzzing, or a combo of both.
Also, there are 4 big screw bolts on the top of the cabinet. They hold the chassis in place. Make sure all for are tight.
So check:
1) Tubes 2) speaker nuts/bolts 3) 4 big screw bolts on top of amp

Yeah I tried another speaker and that is not the culprit. I’ve ordered a new set of tubes that should come in in the next couple days. I’ll change them out and let you guys know. Thanks for all the advice. Should save me some cash.

Ok I changed the tubes and the problem still exists. I’m thinking of sending it into Dr Z to see if they can figure out the problem. It’s really weird that when I play a barre chord it’s doesn’t do it but with an open chord with overdrive of the eq by pass engaged it does. Does anybody still think it could be the speaker? Very frustrating.

Does it do this on different guitars?

Very frustrating. Rectifier as well? Is there another person (preferably a guitar player) who can either play the guitar so you can observe from behind the amp, or vice versa? If it isn't the speaker or tubes there must be something vibrating when those certain frequencies are hit - a 2nd pair of ears and eyes may help isolate it.

Get a screw driver and tighten everything you can reach to include tube sockets, transformers, chassis mounts, and the nut on each of the jacks including the loop. Jiggle and pull on each knob in front to ensure they are tightened down firmly, and you might need to take a knob or two off just the be sure.
