I went back to play high school (reunion)/old friends jam this last weekend in minn...friend of mine let me use his squire which had 9's and he let me tear into it...gave it the standard fender setup (eric Johnson 10-50's) and dammed if it didn't play...and sound pretty fair...might be on the hunt for something like this for future outings...no experience with the line...

I know that the Squire VM series are said to be quite good. I have a Squire VM bass, and it's been a great instrument for me. It's ten years old now and still going strong.

I have a mid 80's made in Japan Squier Strat, bought in Watertown NY in 1990?? for, if I remember correctly.....$170.00 US with a Fender hard shell case. Mind you, it was well used. no need to relic this one. It remained my main guitar in a Country/Rock band for about 10 years since my Epiphone Howard Roberts couldn't do either style. It still plays well, has that Strat sound and is very light, it's going nowhere. Not sure about the current models as I haven't had the need to try them.

I also have a mid 80s Squire/Strat. Excellent guitar. I didn't care for the electronics so I bought the complete Kinman pickups/wiring harness. It's now my go-to Strat, even beating out my '63.

to quote BW... "you know an old Fender's nice but considerin' the price I think I sound about the same on a Squire"

if you played a Squire, you may get to play with Tommy Emmanuel someday...

Well I ended up getting a players (maple neck/3 tsb) strat edition...picked up a demo for a little over $500 bucks...its not the pinnacle of fender but it does give you almost every bit of what a American special's feel has...the little xtra's for a little more (demo) satin neck,22 frets,2 point bridge just has familiar feel.
