In terms of tone? IfnMesa Boogie were looking for a stiffer amp it seems a SS would be better.

A supposed versatility feature allowing you some sag if needed. Most people buy those for high gain use and prefer solid state for added tightness. I guess in the mid gain ranges one might want some sag, but this assumes the amp is running close to full power and at 100 watts is rarely practical.

In the simplest of ways - Most of them have a switch for SS or rectifier. There are two (dual) rectifier tubes because of the output in the 100 watt. Using two keeps it tighter than using just one over loaded. I'm not sure the triple rec has three of em. It might just be a moniker of being 150 watts. Never had one of those. It might have two, might have three. I've had the Dual Rectifier 100 and 50 watt version. Oddly enough the 50 watt dual rectifier has no tube rectifier at all ?? Hmmm..

I have always been confused by that terminology. I thought I understood the Dual Rectifier to have two positions of Solid State rectification. The triple rectifier I thought was a tube rectifier and two positions of SS. Not sure, but like an unknown lyric, that's what I always thought.

The 50 watt rigs are called Solo Rectos. The triples do actually have three 5U4 rectifier tubes. Lots of glass in those...

The 50 watt rigs a recalled Solo Rectos. The triples do actually have three 5U4 rectifier tubes. Lots of glass in those... Good call on the solo wording. So the solo rectifier has no tube rectifier. Diode only. The Dual rectifier has twin rectifier tubes switchable to a SS rec. The triple rec actually has three rectifier tubes and is switchable to SS I know they came out with a newer version rec with half power. Not sure if they deleted the solo rec. It was a cool little amp.

I bet that is an event when a power tube goes

I have an old MB Maverick, which is a pretty early "Dual Rectifier" offering. (It's a very nice little amp, btw). It has a tube recto and a SS, switchable on the rear panel. A tad more power, stiffness, tight low end with SS; sag and bloom with tube.
