I'm hoping the Doctor will see and answer this question. When the decision to make the Z-Plus was made why was a 6V6 chosen over an EL-84? The MAZ 8, its sibling, was already being made with an EL-84. Was there that much difference in the way the two sounded?

Good question. I think I remember Doc talking about this in an old thread when the Z-Plus concept was first announced. If I remember right, wasn't the original Z-Plus built for Joe Walsh, a parallel single ended EL84 amp ? Edit: Good info on the origin of the Z-Plus in this thread: ztalk.proboards.com/thread/76466/great-walsh-vintage-guitar-magazine

Well this amp was inspired by a request from JW. Joe is a big fan of Champ amps. Funk 49 was recorded using a Blackface Champ. Hence Joe asked for a double powered ( apox 15 watt ) true class A , single ended 6V6 amp. To achieve this I used a dual parallel single ended 6V6 output, and the Z Plus was born. Used 6V6's for a slightly bigger bottled American based tone.
