I'm in the process of acquiring the EMS and am hoping to get two 2x12 cabs to make a full EMS stack. But I've been wondering about perhaps getting one closed-back cab and one open-back cab (actually a convertible, so that I can open it or close it as needed).
Has anybody here done that? What would be the outcome of combining open and closed types in this way? Pros and cons?
And what about speaker choice: the Backline cab that the EMS comes with is the fully closed-back variety with a Creamback and a G12H30. What speakers would work best if I wanted the second cab to bring other flavors to the sound *and* which would be best in an open-back cab?
Mike, I'd love for you to weigh in on these questions, too. I know how good your ears are, and you're the designer of the Backline cabs and know them best.
Thanks! Daniel

Waiting to see replies? I have an EMS w/matching cab and not really positive about the H30 and creamback combination. Still breaking in my speakers but i may change to two G12-65's. I know you're question pertains to twin cabs open and closed backs. I have two 2x12 cabs but the z is 16, and the other is a 4ohm. But i've thought about rewiring it to 16 ohm ? Not sure about mixing speakers? Just me! Good question though! Jeff

They also sound good with 2 greenbacks as well! Classic Brit tone!
