Hi everyone,
I've been hanging out here for a while and this is my first post. I've been considering my first Z and I've narrowed it down to the Z Wreck combo with half power or the Z Plus with the Alnico Blue. I've played both and like both, and ultimately will probably end up with both, but I want to hear which one you would choose first and why. Volume is not an issue I have to worry about.
Thank you for your opinions.
Jared

Get the Wreck. Most people seem to unload their Wrecks because of volume issues. If you don't have that......you'll love the Wreck.

Volume issues is a great point. If you have some limits to how you can open your amps up at home, get the Z-Plus first. Even with half power the Wreck is a loud amp and it needs to breathe a little bit to sound its best. It does, however, respond beautifully to a Brake Lite. Both are great amps and I don't anticipate selling either one of mine.
BTW, welcome to Z-Talk. It's a great community.

The way I personally deal with the volume of the wreck at home is with my wireless. I just crank up the amp, walk out of the room, close the door and enjoy its tone from somewhere else in the house.

We would need to know a little about your playing situation. You haven't given us any idea of how you're going to use the amp?
What kind of music/style? What volume? Live band or recording? Homeplayer in the basement? What amps/tone have you liked in the past? (are you a blackface Fender guy? Or a Marshall crunch guy? Or a Mesa guy?)

I play pretty much everything.... rock... blues.... jazz.... acoustic.... even metal....
I've had everything from AC30's to Tweed Deluxes to Deluxe Reverbs to JMP's to Friedman's. This is pretty much going to be an amp for home playing and for band practice. I live on a cul de sac, so it will be played LOUD!

I would vote for Z Wreck. It can cover a lot of the styles you mentioned and it is a great sounding amp.

I love your volume solution!! I used to tame my Monza the same way, I put it in a closet in my buddy's studio and enjoyed the tone.
Honestly, the Z wreck is an amazing amp. I would start there. The Zplus is also very cool and would be a great follow up amp but nothing blooms like the Z Wreck in my opinion and if you dime the amp, it WILL ROCK AND ROLL!

I have knocked a couple things off the bookshelf and off of the wall before playing the amp really loud this way.

I have a ZWreck and love it. I use a Weber attenuator and can get very close to loud sounds quietly. Seems that slight compression is added by the attenuation, but it’s not a big deal. I, of course, would vote for the ZWreck, but at the same time, I’m looking lustfully at the Plus and the Nova. I, seriously, don’t need more amps.
One more thing, I’m fairly certain I’ve never heard a better amp for single coil guitars than the ZWreck- it’s like a thermonuclear Vox. It is great also for hummies, but I prefer my Route66 for those.
