Looking at a used one, cheap, to pick up as a fun modification project. Any thoughts?

I think they're cool. Weird. I remember trying one out when they were new. Body felt weird. As you could imagine by looking at it.
I've actually thought about getting one and messing around with it.

Yeah, they roughly carved little ridges in the top to get a 'flame look' They are full on chambered though (which is very good in my book) Things like the neck joint looked pretty rough but it would make a good LP project guitar.

I had one for a while, and it played surprisingly well, I really liked the feel of it but I could never bond with the Electronics mix. It had a P90 and a Burst Bucker, if memory serves, and I found them to be oddly matched with to great a difference in output to be useful for me, and I didn't like the "Kill" switch, never found a good use for them with my playing, since it was in the selector position I often killed the signal instead of switching the pickups. It didn't last long in the stable as I traded it away for something else more useful to me.
My $0.02 FWIW!

Me too. my first thought was the Billy F. Gibbons model, but at that price, I wouldn't think anybody would be using it as a project guitar!
