I’m looking for a little more low end response and punch from my 1x12 combo. I assume the 1x12 cab (closed) is a good solution. Can anyone speak to this from experience?! I tried a head through a 2x12 and was blown away. A 2x12 is a little much for my needs though. Does 1x12 do the trick?

I had success with using a 1 x 12 convertible cab for better low end response. I would make sure you get the convertible part so you can close the back up if desired.

Also make sure your cab or combo are on the floor to increase/accentuate Bass/low end response. Putting the amp up on a stand will decrease bass.

Keep in mind..... EL84 amps, especially a 1x12, isn't going to have a lot of low end. There are exceptions (like the Stang Ray).... But, for the most part, they won't thump like a Fender with 6L6's or 6v6's.
That's not saying they don't have "enough" low end....It's just not as powerful. It sure doesn't sound like it from the amp, but I've had to dial back my low end on the amp, or the mixer channel EQ, when I've walked out front and heard my amp.
But, yes a closed back cab will help.

I’ve always felt like open backs have a fuller “feeling” low end, although I know many would disagree. Although if you are adding a second cab, closed back would bring a nice complimentary tone.
I would look at a different speaker personally. What’s in there now? The heritage G12H 55hz might fit the bill.
