Played my newly updated Maz 18 Mk.II this past Saturday night with my little 3-pc (power-trio)...Not necessarily the best stage setup in the world, but a fun place. There was about 75 people in the club, and it was fully packed...Gain (volume) on about 10:30, for just some hair on my cleans, and the master volume at about 11:30..... Just to give you a size and level idea.
My amp, sat center stage in front of the kick drum (electronic kit) and I was about 2-3 feet beside it......So, I didn't get a really good feel for my tone, since it was more of the proximity sounds I heard instead of a dead-on tone
But.....I got a pretty good idea of how it does live.
As before, plenty of clean headroom to hang with a loud drummer (or stage volume) and still probably the loudest 18w amp I've ever played!
The low end is the first thing that I noticed that is different... It's not as noticed on my Tele bridge pickup, but flip to my mini-humbucker neck and it thumps! Same with my Peavey Wolfgang, it had a lot of low end that especially noticeable on a neck pickup.
The amp has some seriously great bite, that's a little different "voice" than before, but makes itself known on a stage. Not quite as "Voxy", maybe? More of it's own thing now?
It's still a pedal eating machine, and probably one of the best pedal platform amps around (maybe better than before)? The majority of my dirt pedals, are mid-heavy TS clones (Paisley Deluxe, Cusack, Clarksdale), but I have a an XTS Atomic OD that will melt your face off too... It sounded the most natural and organic that it's ever sounded.
Kicking in my Cusack Screamer, was instant SRV... More so than with any other amp.
This was more of an 80s - 2000s rock band, but we did a few country songs... This really shined at the country stuff as well, with that nice bitey top end and EL84 compression.
Can't wait to play it this weekend at a bigger club, where it's not in front of the drums
I think this amp is going to get used A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!
