Hello, I am a brand new Dr. Z Maz 38 owner. This is my first Dr.Z amp. It is the 1x12 combo with reverb. It has a brake lite installed. Please forgive me if this topic has been covered before on this forum.
I am just curious as to what overdrives fellow owners like with their Maz's. I understand this is very subjective. I own a ton of boutique od's and have a lot of experimenting to do myself. I am just a gear junkie and would love to hear what other players are into or excited about. I play primarily '78 Les Paul's stock (a custom and a standard) but I also use strats as a change up.
I am not necessarily asking for what is the best, again, very subjective, just what you like and why.
Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. There are so many choices and quality products out now that it seems like I fall in love with something new almost daily.

Welcome to the forum! Though I sold my Maz 38 years ago (too loud for what I was doing) I had great results with my Tim and Timmy pedals. They were very neutral sounding, meaning there was no change in amp tone when used as a low, medium, or high gain pedal. They also sounded great with single coil or humbucker guitars. I also had a bunch of different OD pedals that were nice (Blackstone Appliance, original Zendrive, KOT, Rockett Animal, FD II, etc) but the two that have lasted were the Tim & Timmy.

Thank you "Z" Steve. I was wondering about the Tim. I have the Timmy. I will have to try it when I get a chance. Is the Tim similar to the Timmy just with a boost? I have never tried one.

I love the Z-drive with my Maz. Also, the Xptic BB preamp. Lots say the Maz takes the OCD well too but, I dont have experience with that.

I mainly use my Maz 18 now, but I still have the 38 I used for probably ten years, and still love it. My main drive pedals are still the KOT (high gain red side), and OCD. The KOT is generally for my Strat, and the OCD for humbuckers, as it's a bit more scooped. I also really like the Xotic BB and RC, which I keep as spares. As you say, it's personal taste, but these all work for me. In fact I depend on the KOT so much I have a second one in reserve.

Congrats on the amp. I absolutely love my 38 NR!! I particularly like my RYRA Klone with my 38. The pedals I hear most about on this forum with Maz amps are the Barber Gain Changer, Xotic AC Booster, Timmy, and RYRA Klone. I’m sure I’m missing a few, but those come up all the time on this forum. Luckily the 38 takes all gain pedals super well. Whatever you decide on will sound great. These are amazing amps!!
