Was a Z Wreck 2x12 cabinet ever produced in black tolex...or am I barking up the wrong tree looking for one?

Was a Z Wreck 2x12 cabinet ever produced in black tolex...or am I barking up the wrong tree looking for one? At one point, early on, the Z-Wreck cab was the silver one in the set. It set itself apart because it had (i) the oval back and (ii) blue/gold speakers. The regular 212 didn't have the oval back. I don't think a black Z-Wreck cab was ever made. However, I'm sure the new normal-run 212s with the oval back are very similar. So, If you can find a newer model black 212 with an oval back it should be similar. The only thing is that most of those will not have e blue/gold combo of speakers...which many, including Doc, would likely say is the voice of the Z-Wreck.

That makes sense KeithA. Here's my situation... I own a black tolex Z-Wreck head...love it! I'm playing it through a Vox V212HWX (fawn tolex) with a gold/blue combo and while it sounds great it looks a bit ying/yang if you know what I mean. I had someone reply to my WTB thread here and I'm working on a silver 2x12 deal. I also put out feelers for a black Wreck 2x12...which it doesn't appear was ever made. Dimensionally the Z Wreck 2x12 would fit in my current road case and the "new" Dr. Z 2x12 will not: Vox V212HWX: 27.76"w x 21.65"h x 10.24"d Z-Wreck 2x12: 27.5”w x 21.5”h x 10”d "New" Z 2x2: 27.5“w x 22.25“h x 10.25”d It could be that I'm too picky and just need to shut up and play my guitar!

Hmmmm.....I have both and would never have imagined they were different sizes ! I just pulled them side by side and they are very similar. By my eye the new 212 seems to be the same height! I'll have to measure later on but the new 212 doesn't seem to be .75" higher. However, if you can score the silver ZWreck cab I'd go for that. That's a stunning looking cab!

So...Ken ( muzicmaken ) kindly sold me his Quantum Silver 2x12 with a blue installed (I had a gold) and I had a chance to load it up and play it Friday night. Simply put...don't question DRZ when he says "it's the true voice of the Z Wreck." I used my fawn Vox 2x12 with the Blue/Gold combo for a long time and it sounded good but Friday's gig with the Z Wreck cab proved the Doc's statement true. Even the drummer commented on the tone. Wait...the dummer has me in his ears and listens?!? :-P Thank you Doc...WOW! Merry Christmas all! Dave
