Hello,
I’ve just purchased a 2x12 cab with celestion gold + celestion blue. I am a bit confused about the power rating of the cab. According to the description it is 50w. Is that right? Should not be twice the power of the blue, i.e. 30w?
Thank you.

30 watts is correct.

So I presume it is not safe to run a 40 watts remedy with this cab, is it?

In half power mode it would be fine, but not with the switch set to full (or 40 watts). Not with the amp wide open anyway. Actually, you probably could even get away with it at full power. That’s 20 watts on the Blue, it would carry some risk with the amp wide open. Tough call...

How is the cab wired? If its wired in series with the Gold being hit with power first wouldn't it then be the power handling of the Gold? I do believe the Zreck Silver Cabs are wired and rated this same way. ??

I'm pretty certain that it's 2x the power rating of the lowest rated speaker regardless of the wiring. Blue\Gold = 30 watts.

I'm pretty certain that it's 2x the power rating of the lowest rated speaker regardless of the wiring. Blue\Gold = 30 watts. Yup, with two speakers in a cab--whether series or parallel wired--you'll get a max power rating at 2 x the max power rating of the lowest speaker in the pair. So yeah... G12 Gold + G12 Blue = 30 W max. (I know, it kind of seems like you're "wasting" all that 50 W power handling of the Gold... which you are, sort of. But at least it'll sound fabulous.)
