I am new to the Z family, ordered the Plus on Sat. should be here mid week. Our band plays mostly classic rock and I have been using a heavily modded HtRd Deluxe or A recently added Rebel 30 head with an older Marshall 2x12 cab loaded with Greenbacks. This was a bit scary, it's my the most I've ever spent on an amp!!

Congrats on the new amp and welcome to the Forum - a lot of good information and great people here. The Z Plus is a great amp - I keep it in my living room and keep the MV down low so the wife can watch TV at the same time. Very versatile amp.

Hi Mike, I am excited and looking forward to playing it.Our band only plays 10 or 12 gigs a yr so I play at home a lot, A friend gave me an attenuator in a trade which helps. Our band mostly plays to support Recovery and Sobriety so it's not a money making endevour-We are the guys who drive expensive gear many miles for $50 LOL.But hey, at least my wife knows I will come home after the gig!!

Congrats, I worked my Z-Plus out last night BV

The ZPlus is an awesome amp. The Class A design is really noticeable in the tone, to my ears.
Coming from a 40watt HRDlx, you may find the ZPlus a little underpowered at 7/15 watts, depending on how you played the Fender. You may not need the attenuator - the 1/2 power switch and MV give you lots of options volume-wise.
Of the 3 Dr Z’s I now have, I think the ZPlus has become my fav.

My HtRd is setup with a Deluxe Reverb OT and 6v6 tubes and is great sounding. The attenuator is for the Rebel 30,an amp that needs to be cooking to sound really good but gets mighty loud. I have not been overly happy with it because at reasonable volumes it sounds restricted, not open like a nice Fender.I consider it a modern sound, until about 1/2 volume when it opens up.I am looking for tones in the Mike Cambell,Neil Youngish range.Lucinda Williams CD "Wherethe Spirit meets the Bone" has guitar tones that just stop me in my tracks. When I turn my 69 Bassman up to about 7 or 8 I find my guitar vol. and Tone controls become really useful and I can get close to that sound but a restraining order might be close behind LOL. I mostly play a custom swamp ash Tele with Joe Bardens, kinda does it all for me.

Pardon the runon sentencing, the quick reply feature seems to have economized my spacing.

I think the ZPlus can get a very nice Doug Pettibone type vibe - a bit of hair on the clean, chimey and full. I run a Strymon Flint with mine and it’s awesome.
Enjoy the amp!

The amp arrived today, got to play for about 15 mins when my wife came home early due to illness so I let her have some peace and quiet.Tonight I had about 20 mins before having to head out.I will need some time to find the true voice of this beauty. This is the first brand new amp I have purchased since the early 80's when I bought a Fender "75"-A real handwired beast(super loud and clean).I know there is breakin period with most instruments and I feel this amp responding like an instrument already.I briefly tried a Tele,Strat and Ibanez AM93-no time for effects, but each guitar sounded Sweeeet.Really looking forward to band practice this weekend. I hope to finish repairing a friends 63 Brown Deluxe tomorrow and playing them side by side, just hope I don't drool to much!!!

Those Brown Deluxes are sweet amps but I'd be hard pressed to give up my Z-Plus for one! I bet the two in stereo would be incredible. Do you have a stereo chorus or delay pedal?

I took her out for practice today and WOW..!! Just brought guitar, cord and amp and covered everything, didnt really miss my pedal board-well maybe a little. During the second half of practice I put her in 1/2 power for more drive using the boost for leads. This was proof of purchase for me, a Stellar amp indeed!!!! Our next gig is in Lynn,MA not sure I should take her to such a rough town on our first date LOL. I use a HOF 2 and a Nova delay so I plan on trying stereo with the Rebel 30 soon, should be fun. Sorry for the weirdness I am playing with font size, I injured my rt eye at work, things are a little fuzzy.

Did you notice any issue with the amp not having enough volume over the drummer or other instruments?

Not at all,I ha the volume just past noon and the Master never got to halfway up. Used the boost for leads and found some great tones by using guitar voume and tone. We had 2 guitars, bass and drums-The other guitar player used a Hot Rod Deluxe. Our drummer has a new set of DW drums and hit pretty hard. I hhad plenty on tap !!!!
