I'm getting a used 2005 Maz 38 Reverb head. I'm not sure I will immediately need to replace the tubes but just in case and to have spares I want to get the Dr. Z recommended tubes for it. The Dr. Z website has the recommended tubes and has link to TheTubeStore.com set. The only thing is that the two sets differ slightly so I'm wondering if something has changed or if The Tube Store is substituting something or some reason. I'm not knowledgeable enough about tubes to know if this set from The Tube Store is same thing or not. Looks like the differences are the power tubes, Dr. recommends JJ matched set and The Tube Store has Electro-Harmonix and also the v2 tube, Dr. Z recommends JJ ECC83 and The Tube Store set has Shuguang 12AX7-B. Hopefully I'm interpreting the tube positions correctly at the Tube Store as they dont label then V1-V10. Can anybody comment on whether this set from TheTubeStore.com is really a Dr. Z recommended set for a 2005 Maz 38 with Reverb and either way why it would differ from what Dr. Z has on it's website? I would love to know the functions of each tube in this amp also. It's obvious which ones are the power tubes and the rectifier. Not sure about the others. I wish the manual for the amp described this but I looked at the online manual and it doesn't. Here's the two sets side by side:

I think I figured out the discrepancy with the power tubes. On Dr. Z YouTube channel I posted question about whether the 6n14n tubes were used in the Maz 38 and Dr. Z Amplification replied no, that JJ's have always been used in the Maz 38. And I said well I was looking for what tubes to use in my 2005 Maz 38 and they said JJ's would have been used in 2005 and they still are today. And then they added that for a short time the Electro-Harmonix power tubes were used due to quality issues with the JJ but now they are back to using JJ. So I guess that's why TheTubeStore still lists Electro-Harmonix tubes. Not sure about the V2 difference so I might try them both and see if I can tell a difference.

If I recall correctly, the JJ brand went through a noisy power tube period with their el84s and then the 6v6 (rattling). All cleared up now and the JJs are pretty reliable, inexpensive, and easy to find.
