I'm happy, but a little disappointed...... (local deal). I traded my 65amps Producer head and a 1x12 cab for it - semi-local deal..... I found this "Maz 18 Mk.II with a Celestion Blue" listed on CL, so I offered to trade my amp for it. We texted back and forth, quite a bit - the pics looked like a Mk.II (New logo vs old logo), and had the bypass jack on the back..... I never thought to look for the "Mk.II" sticker on the back. I drove about 100+ miles to meet the guy this morning, got home (another 100+ miles) and started playing it and noticed the noisy reverb, so I started doing some research and found out it's a V.1. I've had a couple Mk.1 models in the past and loved them.... But I'm a little disappointed after hearing how much "better" the Mk.II sounded, that I don't have a Mk.II I still have a GREAT amp, but not quite what I was hoping for - and I lost a little more than I thought in my trade (with it not being a Mk.II), but I still like this amp better than the 65amps, so in the end I guess I came out better...... Looks like I'll be saving up to get the Mk.II mods done sometime next year. FYI: manufacture date of 9/15

It looks great at least. Definitely a newer one. What year? The last few years have had the lighter cab.

There’s a reall good possibility that the seller legitimately thought he had a Mk. II and therefore represented it as such. It’s a little more clear now but when the Mk. IIs first became available it wasn’t real clear which was what just from the website, which also wasn’t perfectly in sync with info in the AMA. If there’s any question best to call Don and let him run the serial number. Based on dates I was certain that one of my 3 was a Mk. II but turns out it missed by just a very few serial numbers.
At first I thought “no problem I’ll just send them in” and I still might, but given how good the Maz MV is to start with coupled with the hassle and danger inherent to shipping amps now I’m not so sure. I’m trying to balance any real need that exists with my OCD need to always have the newest and best.

I honestly don't think he intentionally did it, I think it was an honest mistake since it had the newer logo and the EQ by-pass jack on the back. I know my Z's pretty good, and didn't catch it until I heard the noisy reverb, and my memory couldn't tell much difference from the Maz 18 I had about 7 years ago. I understand what you are saying.... It sounds GREAT!!!! But, it's not the new and improved version! I'll probably do it.....But I'll have to wait until after the holidays.

I just sent my 2012 MazNR in for the master volume and effects loop update. I already replaced the power tubes with the recommended updated tubes which made a big difference. I plan on reporting back to Z-Talk when the amp gets back, but update or no update, you have a great amp! When I first heard about the update, I couldn't imagine the Maz being any better than it already was, but after reading about the Master volume update being able to replace the Brake Lite, I figured I could sell the Brake lite to offset the cost of the update. But, If I never heard about the update, I would still love my Maz. And don't feel too bad about losing money on the trade, as long as you have something that you know that you will put to good use for a long time you are ok. Unless you are a vintage collector, there is no use in holding on to something you won't ever use because it doesn't meet your needs.

If I still had a MAZ 18 I would want the newer Master Volume and the bypass feature. But I liked the EQ on both my 38 and 18 just fine. I would have to try one with the MK.II EQ. Sometimes newer is not better. It's just different.

Having had several 18s over the years, and currently an MKII, I am in the different, not necessarily better, camp, The original 18 is a "modern classic" for a reason after all.

Sometimes newer is not better. It's just different. Totally agree. I have both the 18 and the 38, and have always been happy with the way they sound. I'm not rushing to have the mods done, though if I bought a new one of course I'd be pleased to have the MkII.
