Just bought this 2014 Maz 38 head and opened it up to clean some of the dust in it, clean pots, routine stuff and noticed the circuit board where 2- 150Ω 10A resistors are glued down on the circuit board and turning it brown from heat. Should they be glued to the board and is this normal? thanks Andy

They need air underneath the resistor to cool it down. That is a big culprit Fender and their Hot Rod Deluxe series. I have never seen Dr. Z amps with a glued down resistor, maybe a capacitor set in silicon to avoid rattling. Good catch!!

I meant 10watt. Having trouble uploading pics from my iPad. You a user on the gear page? This Xicon resistor 10w 150 ohm os glued to the board. Not a good arrangement for high current components I think.

Here is a photo of my Therapy and it looks like the load resistor indeed is setting on a bed of silicon.

Hi the cathode resistors are held to the board with silicone adhesive, which is a good insulator but poor conductor of heat. Thus far the only time an amp that has arrived here in a similar condition is after it's experienced an unchecked catastrophic power tube failure. We would never send an amp back to a customer without replacing both resistors, and recommend that yours are changed as well. Please let me know if you have any questions Thanks Don Depew DRZ Repairs

A 10w ceramic resistor under load is gonna toast anything it’s next to.
