Hello everybody!
I only have a few minutes but I wanted to update. Don wrote back yesterday evening. I answered his questions and he sent me an RA today. I’m going to fill it out and get it ready to send back to the mother ship! He said (same as you all did) that it looks like a power tube went and took that other stuff with it. If that’s the only thing then they will just have to fix that and put four new power tubes in.
I’ll be back on again later to reply to everything this evening but wanted to post that real quick. Talk to everybody later!
I’ve enjoyed the reminiscing. I wore out a Marshall amp brochure in the late 90’s because I carried it everywhere! I thought that if I could only get one of those (to replace the Peavey Bandit 112 I was borrowing from an uncle!) I’d be set for life!

Hello!
I sent my amp right around the same time I last posted on this thread and got an update today. I haven’t posted in a while because I didnt have any news, but I have some now!
Straight from Don:
“The grid and screen resistors have been replaced on all four power tube sockets. Old power tubes have been tested, 3 are still good.”
That’s pretty much exactly what everybody on here said it needed, after going through some diagnostics. It’s nice to have such knowledgeable help!
They are putting new tubes in (I sent them the ones I bought) and are going to send an invoice in the morning. Maybe I will have it by the end of the week or early next week.
Thanks again everybody for the advice and warm welcome! I will post with an update once I get it back and have a chance to crank it up!

I’m not sure any amp out there sounds as good as a single coil through a ZWreck. That place right before it starts audibly distorting to the sound at the edge of distortion to the fully distorted place are all crazy great. I hope you soon enjoy your amp as much as I do mine.

Thank you! I hear a lot of good things at that 10:00-11:00 point on the volume! I play single coils 90% of the time so I think this is going to probably be a lifer amp for me.
Every time I get on here I get more excited about having it back! I never heard it like it’s supposed to sound and, since I’m in a small town, I’ve never even had to chance to hear a Dr. Z in person. With the holidays and all it’s been a little wait, but I’m confident it will be well worth it!

It's just such a dynamic and responsive amp. Give it some room to breathe and enjoy the glory!

Hey Dave!
It’s arriving tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited! They are calling for quite a bit of snow this weekend so I’m going to settle in and and enjoy the new amp. I’ll post an update as soon as I can put my guitar down!

Hi everybody,
Sorry for the late report, I fell asleep on the couch last night and then went on to bed before posting. It did come in today (well, yesterday now) and I haven’t hardly been able to stop playing it since! That 10:00-11:00 position is really great with my Tele. I push it to about noon on my Strat and it’s just about perfect. It’s uncanny how much you can clean it up instantly with just a lighter strum and bring all that dirt right back just as quickly by digging in. I have also already noticed places to improve my technique because it all gets laid out right there in front of you - it’s a player’s amp for sure!
It was a busy evening with the kids but I ran to the music room to play for a while every chance I had. I got a couple hours in and I’m going to dig in more today. It is loud, but it does attenuate pretty well and sounds great at just about any volume. I’m looking forward to playing in a band setting!
It was worth the close to six years I spent watching videos and daydreaming about it! Thanks again for all the advice. Now that I have mine, if anybody’s on the fence about it I can jump in and help pull them over!

I got off the fence a couple of years ago and immediately sailed over the moon. Glad you’re happy now.

I got to spend a little bit more time with it and am even more impressed. I was running it through the Brake Lite and then a Weber Mass later last night but got to run it completely unattenuated for a while today. The Brake Lite is very close to no attenuation but I could tell a big difference with the Weber Mass on and then bypassed. I have been happy with it as an attenuator so far but there is something special and amazing about this Z Wreck that gets hidden with by the Mass at lower levels. That’s the nature of attenuation I guess.
I found that even when I have the volume around 9 o’clock or so (no attenuation), there is such a richness of tone that I could still play for hours. I will probably check out a Power Station at some point but I think I’m going to be happy with this and a delay pedal for quite some time! It has lived up to everything you all have said about it. After six years of wanting one I have to say that it has lived up to every expectation!
I will try to get active on the other threads, and when I get ready to buy another Dr. Z I will let everybody know! Thanks again!

It's a special amp and I'm glad you got yours straightened out. Dr.Z is the best when it comes to amps but he really shines at customer service. He really cares about his 'patients'. I can't see myself ever buying another builder's amplifier. Z is the man for me.

Thanks! I’m sure it’s no news to you all but their customer service experience was absolutely top notch. A lot of companies have gone downhill but I would not hesitate to send any future amp to them for maintenance or repairs. Don was extremely professional the whole way and the packaging was amazing.
Speaking of future amps, you’re right, I’m afraid I do need to check out the Nova! The good Dr’s AMAs do not help the amp situation. He could be sitting there talking about solder joints and I’m here trying to google the amp that he’s got his elbow propped up on. I’ve never really been much of a collector of gear (went through a lot, just never let it accumulate), but after seeing how well-built this Z Wreck is I know I’m going to want to pick up several more.
After several years of playing through a Kemper this has reminded me how much a good tube amp still sounds.
