I have used Audacity for years to record my music. Then, Bill Gates' Terrorists installed Windows 10 in my computer, without my permission. I uninstalled it, and in weeks, MicroSoft ate Windows 7 in my computer. My friend had installed Linux Mint just before that happened, thank goodness! Since then I have re-installed Audacity for Linux, but it's really cranky and locks up a lot and I lose a lot of what I have produced.
I usually record about five tracks: vocal, rhythm guitar, drums, some bass, and some lead guitar. I have a mini-mixer, several amps, a Beta 58 and SM-58 mics, some AKG 240 phones. I did fine before I got "Raped by MicroSoft". I have read that Linux can have "latency" issues. Is there a free software app or program that will work with Linux, better than the Audacity I'm struggling with? I'm not any kind of guru. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Texas Jim

I gave up on PC recording because of similar log jams as you're experiencing, Jim. I bought a 32 track Tascam stand alone recorder and am very pleased....with good mics and a little technique, the recordings are impressively good....about 450 bucks

I'd recommend looking into the Studio live AR series from Presonus. It's a mixer that can do live multitrack recording via USB for later individual track mixing/tweaking or a stereo two track live FOH mix all to an SD card or your choice of computer. Used 8 channel ones run about $350 or less. I got a 12 channel one for under $450 used. They also include their studio one software w the purchase so you have their mixing software or any viable option for recordings (GarageBand, audacity, pro tools, Ableton, etc).
