So yesterday I got a Faber locking bridge and tailpiece for my new Explorer, and while installing it I went through the electronics. The guitar was hand wired, no circuit board or plug-in pickups. Good full size pots, nicely done. However, I had noticed that the guitar's output jack didn't have a good, solid click-in when I would put my cable into it, and so I pulled the jack out for a look. The pictures will explain why a little soldering was in order...I hate flimsy jacks!

Egad! I better look at my jack in my Les Paul!! Even the supposedly "good" ones aren't necessarily any good. I just had to replace one on a nearly new Gibson Custom Shop Reissue.

Tonemanguitar.com has some well made prewired wiring harnesses for all the popular guitars. I got one for my SG that had the horrid PC board with plug in pickups, and it dropped right in and sounds great. He's worth checking out. Uses quality components and it's priced right. There's a sale going on, today is the last day...
It's going to be very interesting how Gibson wires the 2019 models. I bet the PC boards aren't going away soon, though. They've invested money in the change and may be reluctant to go back to true vintage style wiring. I hope I'm wrong.

And my wife wonders why my social and intellectual development hasn't progressed much since about 1969!

Wow Dave ! Those are some of the ugliest threads I've ever seen. BTW, congrats on the Explorer.
