Hi all, I recently bought a very slightly used Surgical Steel amp and it sounds amazing ! I've been playing my Emmons S-10 into it with a 15" BW speaker. The amp was built with a tube rectifier. Wondering how this differs from the solid state rectifier and if it would be beneficial to replace the tube with solid state for steel guitar use. I'd love to try this with either a PF350 12" speaker or Travis Toy double T 12" which cabinet would be recommended for this ? thanks !

Welcome to the Forum - a lot of good people and information here. I also have a SS but use mine for guitar so I wouldn't be of much use regarding a steel guitar but I do know that it was designed for use with a solid state rectifier so my guess it would sound even better than the tube rectifier. Do you know if the person using it was playing steel with it?

Mr black deluxe for extra sproingy, strymon flint, digitech makes a good reverb but the text is hard to read, i really like the wampler faux spring echo, and the EH holy grail plus was a staple for me for years.

I tech for a VERY GOOD player who uses his amps interchangeably for electric guitar and steel. Even when he plays guitar he does a lot of faux steel stuff with a volume pedal. On his amps that originally had tube rectifiers he much prefers I set them up with plug-in solid state rectifiers.
He and I both are devotees of the Strymon Flint for reverb. He even likes it better than the built-in spring reverb on most of his amps.
I too would love to hear a PF 350 12". I see the 15" version is currently unavailable. Too bad.

I had a Mojo 1x12 convertible cab built for my PF 350, it sounds pretty nice. I wanted one with a Z on the front, but the Doc doesn't sell empty cabs, and I guess he decided not to add the PF 350 as an option, as I pleaded with him.
