The EZG-50 mod is listed on Dr. Z's website as "Bass reduction & current production voicing". Are these considered two separate things or just one mod (the "bass mod"). If they are separate how does the current voicing differ from an amp from 2011?
Also, i haven't opened up the chassis of my EZG from 2011 but I'm kinda eager to do this and would also like to know is there a way to determine by looking if my amp has the bass mod (and current voicing mod if it's actually separate from the bass mod)?
Would Dr. Z by serial number be able to tell me if my amp has been to them for any mods?
Thanks.

Hello patrick, the easiest way is to hear by your ear. If your Bass is quickly maxed out at around 9:00 and after that, there are almost no change in Bass during the whole rest of tweaking, then yours are none bass mod.
I'm pretty sure your 2011 EZG is a pre bass mod one. Not sure there are any other voicing change besides the bass mod, but I do find some different in V3's cathode circuit between the old EZGs and a 2017 model.

Don’t know anything about the current production voicing mod but the bass mod is this one:

Apart from that, I really suggest you to make the reverb mod: supereasy (one single cap to change) but very effective.

What's the reverb mod does? How to apply it?

I'm not currently maxing out the reverb so don't feel I need more. My amp tech told me this: one cap value on the EZG is very different from the original circuit (Super Reverb) on which the EZG is based (100 picofarad vs 1000). That “wrong” value causes a very strong “filter effect”: only the high part of the EQ spectrum is affected by reverb circuit. Changing the cap brings a strong improvement imho, reverb becomes deeper and more effective. It’s really night and day.

I did a video sample about the reverb mod a few weeks ago. I’m Italian so skip the first part and go straight to minute 5:10😉

Wow juanka!! that sounded really great! I may have to revisit the EZG with the bass and reverb mods. That's how I wanted it sound in my head with the Z 4x10 that I had. I felt with the two that I had (pre-bass mod) it was too strident/harsh and couldn't get that type of sparkly blackface tone you are getting. I've been tossing around the idea of getting another, especially after hearing your clip, but with the Z Emi Legend 10 speaker option in the 4x10 for more of a Fendery type speaker. You do drop to 80 watts handling instead of 280 with the standard Z 10.
I skipped to the 5 minute mark per your suggestion...haha....could you please tell me what speakers/cab you are using in the video? Was it the /13? Not sure if I over looked that information?
Thanks, Joe
PS, is the reverb mod an "official type mod?

The “reverb mod” is not official, my amp tech told me about this possibility and I can’t suggest it more!

Could anyone please tell me which year The Doc started to produce these with the new voicing and bass mod? I just picked up an EZG. second time for me. This one is a 2014 or 16. My old head still had the oval valance. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, the bass circuit was changed around 2012 so a 14-16 should be "fixed" already.

Has anyone ever found out what the "Current production voicing" is along with the bass mod? I have not but I would like to know more about this. I ordered the parts to do the bass mod myself but haven't done it yet.

I still want to find out exactly what is the "Current voicing" is. Did you ever happen to do the bass mod?
