Gigged the new EJ Thinline Strat last night. We were in a familiar room so I knew the sound (pretty loud/lively). The place was full so that helped dampen the sound somewhat. This gig was with the 8 pc (w horns) band.
My rig was the Cure with the EQ bypass engaged most of the night (about halfway up). Pedals included the Cali76 comp (always on), J Rockett Rockaway for solos and Chase Tone Secret Preamp at the end of the chain. The Cure's dials were; V 11 o'clock, Master wide open, Level 11. Tones were mostly at noon except T at 9. The first set I used my #1 '89 Am Std Strat (Rosewood fretboard) with Amalfitano SP PU's and EJ wiring. It gave me a good base-line to judge the EJ Thinline.
Second and third sets were the EJ. It was noticeably brighter (not unexpected) but in a very pleasing way.....not ice-picky at all. Rolled the bridge tone back to 7 and bam....very good solo and chording tones. Solo tones using the bridge, bridge/middle and neck positions were all balanced with plenty of overtones. Before the set I was concerned about the semi-hollow body so I reduced the gain on the Rockaway, but sustain and feedback were very controllable and never got away from me. Sustain was almost Gibson-like, especially in the neck position.
I was concerned about the maple neck/fretboard on the EJ as well as the thicker-than-I-like neck carve, but I have to say this guitar has exceeded my expectations by a mile. Add to it that it weighs less than 7 lbs and I think I have a real winner here!

Congrats LT! Sounds like a fun gig. Glad you like your new EJ Strat. 7 lbs is perfect. I bet that guitar sings.

Nice report on the guitar. Glad it worked out. Curious if you mic'd the Cure or balanced stage volume. I never had the chance to try one in a band setting to find out how it carried especially w a horn section. Sounds like a fun gig and inspiring, too w the EJ semihollow.

I do mic the Cure, mostly for stage monitoring for others in the band. However, it has plenty of volume without micing if needed. I did swap the Z speaker for a Neo Lil Texas which is about 3db more efficient (and lighter), so that helps as well.

What string gauge do you use on the strats?

I use 9's Brian (Super Slinky's to be precise). I used to use 10's but as I've gotten older, I know my hand strength has declined, so I decided not to fight it!
