I'm new to the Z-Wreck but not Dr. Z amps having owned a couple of Routes. I played my 3rd gig last night with the Wreck and wanted to jot down a few thoughts...
Venue: Bar, Keystone, CO, seats maybe 80 people. Shallow stage, everyone inline on stage. Small dance floor right in front of the stage. Amp: Z-Wreck (Cut=11, Bass=1, Treble 12:30, Vol=1:30) Cab: Vox V212HWX w/ Blue/Gold combo Attenuator: Airbrake 3-clicks down (yeah...small venue!)
I played the first set with my Tele Custom (Duncan Antiquity '60s set) as I would with the Vox AC30 HWH using a Greer Lightspeed or Fulltone FD1 for drive tones keeping any drive out of the amp with the guitar volume. I picked up the R7 (Duncan Antiquities) for the second set and used the volume(s) to control drive. What?!?...I'm onto something here! Amazing dynamics and tone. For the 3rd set I grabbed the Kotzen tele and the only pedal on was the Wamper 'verb...again controlling drive level with the guitar's volume.
Granted three gigs is still honeymoon phase...but I like what I'm hearing here. Wonder in the back of my mind how much of a difference a Z-Wreck cab would make but figure I'm 90% of the way there with the Vox configured the way it is.
I welcome feedback and input from my fellow Z-Wreck brethren. What say you?
Cheers! Dave

The Z Wreck oval 2x12 May sound a little larger than the Vox cabinet but in a band situation, I don’t think it would be noticeable. Glad you like the Z Wreck live!

I’m running my treble at about 2:30 with my Voodoo TE59 and about 2:30-3:00 with my Voodoo Nocaster. I have no idea why I’m the only one putting the treble up that high but to me (and band mates) it really sounds great. I never read about anybody going higher than 1-2:00 with their treble. My cut stays about about 2:00, bass at noon and volume at 10-11 o’clock. This is with Teles so that’s the kicker. It seems like those settings are awful bright but IMO that’s where they shine. Side note: If y’all haven’t tried a Voodoo Nocaster Bridge pup with the Wreck you guys are missing out! Just sayin

Just sayin I'm doubly glad you posted this, because I thought my ears or a dull sounding tube were the reason I had my Wreck treble and cut set to about the same levels as yours. The bass control is really interesting on the Wreck. It really interacts with the treble in a good way. Glad I'm not alone.
It's just a great amp, and the Brake Lite works so well with it that I usually don't bother gigging my Power Station 2.

Rhino: I'm really just trying to figure out the interactivity of all the controls. Truth be told my first gig with the amp was with everything at noon and "let-'r-fly!" It was the first time I'd turned it on since receiving it and the trusty Vox AC30 was sitting on the stage right next to it...just-in-case...but no need.

Dropping by to update my thoughts/impressions post Gig #4-5-6.
Everything from a setup perspective was really close to the first gigs though I may have bumped the volume a bit and opened up the Air Brake another notch. We had both amps (the singer plays a reissue Twin) buried in the back corner and surrounded by cases to reduce stage volume. Sounded fantastic out front and I played most of each night (when not singing) with my right ear monitor out...all the better to hear "it!" I'm sold though I still feel I'm on the honeymoon. Future gigs will likely only going to get better as I figure out how to work this thing!

Oh...and the ride to/from Sturgis from Denver was fantastic as well...except for the speeding ticket in Wyoming! Oops.

Amps can never be too twangy for me I guess.

Now that I have nearly a month worth of gigs with the Z-Wreck behind me I wanted to drop by and put a bow on this thread.
I'm sold...I'm happy...I'm hooked. The amp has won a spot in my live setup. We played Sat/Sun night in Nebraska and while Sat was inside the weather cooperated so we could play on the deck Sun night. By the end of the night I was playing the Kotzen tele into a Secret Preamp into the Wreck. A glorious tone indeed! It gets clean when you need to and screams with nothing more than a twist of the guitar's volume knob. It can sound country or rock...again with nothing more than a twist of the volume knob.
What's not to like? I can't find anything!

Comfort or speed?

I've been on the Comfort setting since I dropped it on top of my cab. I should switch it to speed at some point and try it out I s'pose! :-P

Tried the Speed setting at the gig in Jackson Hole, WY over this past weekend. The tone got "tighter" (imagine that!) and I promptly set it back to Comfort...probably where it'll "live." I'm 8 weeks into this relationship and happy as can be. I'm to the point now where I don't use an overdrive pedal for gain but do sometimes switch on the Greer Lightspeed for a tonal change...or the Analogman NKT275 fuzz for all-out bombastic chaos! My Chase Tone Red Velvet fuzz should be here soon! The AC-30 head sits at home waiting patiently in its road case to see the light of day again (but will it?!?).
Bottom line?...I feel like I'm home...I've arrived...I'm HAPPY!
Now...about that Z Wreck 2x12? Guess I'd better start saving my coin!
Cheers!
p.s. Guess I got tired of waiting for someone to start or reply to a Wreck thread...so I was compelled to do so myself! Anyone else do that?

Great report! Are you still using the attenuator? I use mine all the time. The "Trainwreck" Air Brake is always inline. I find 2-clicks down is the groove for me. I've tried 3 but it's too much attenuation. Where do you set yours?

I've got a Brake Lite in my 'Wreck combo and usually it's at 3, sometimes 2.
