Hi all, I've got an older RX ES. I was wondering if any of you have tried an AY7 in V1, to calm the extra gain that comes from bringing the volume up. The amp sounds amazing at low volume with pedals, but turn up to gig level and everything turns to mush. I can reduce the gain on the pedals, but I was wondering if I could get more clean headroom with an AY7 or AT7. THANKS!

Wow, yeah... if the issue is too much gain/overdrive at gig volume, then a 5751 or 12AY7 might be your best first-option to try.
If that doesn't work, you might consider picking up a used StangRay--their cleans are amazing (Rx Jr & ES cleans are definitely in the direction of the StangRay, but the 'Ray is "better") and they're LOUD while staying clean. In fact, they still sound good at lower volume with pedals, too. I know it involves the expense of buying a new amp, but it might be even better suited for you.

Thanks Mark! I looked at the "Stang" on line and you have peaked my interest!
