After lots of hours with my new ZW combo and the Brake Lite I’m happy to say that it’s a winner for me. I’ve read some reviews where people say the Brake Lite changes the tone too, arguably too much (or something like that). I’ll never be the guy to knock another personal review, but I have to say that the tone change or loss is so minimal, if any at all, that it’s not a factor for me. This is coming from someone who is extremely critical of tone...all the reason I fell into Dr. Z amps in the first place. I’ve been using BL-3 clicks or #3, V -10-30, T - 2:30, B -11 to 12 noon, and cut - 2:00.
I really do recommend the Brake Lite for any person using the ZW. It will take the Wreck from a loud and beautifully in charge beast to its little brother who wants to go to rehearsals and smaller gigs.
The Brake Lite is one of the very best purchases I’ve ever made!

While not on a Wreck, I’ve used a BrakeLite on Route 66, Antidote, Mini Z, MAZ 8, and now a Remedy. For some it takes something almost too much to one that sits in the mix perfectly. For all it adds another flavour to what the amp does which is indispensable for my tone chasing! ME

I'm converting my head Wreck over to a combo, and although I usually use a Power Station with mine, I fully intend to put a Brake Lite in the cab. It's a great tool and I agree, it works beautifully with the Z-Wreck.

Much of the difference in tone has to do with the hearing of loud versus soft sounds (Fletcher-Munson curve.) Many years ago- long before I had a Z- Benttop did a test of these things that, when the output was adjusted were almost identical. I notice just a bit more sponginess, but not enough to make another amp sound better than a ZWreck.

It seems like I remember reading about this or maybe it came up when I posted questions about the BL. I can’t remember if it was Benttop’s study or not. Regardless, I now have the ultimate grab-n-go / small venue / stadium amp!
