It’s one of the best AMA episodes so far.

Very timely for me, thanks Eric. I've been thinking just lately about whether I wanted to send my older MAZ in for the update. After hearing this, although the new one sounds great, I'm also liking the cut and Voxiness of my older circuit (mine's non-reverb also). I know what you're gonna say...I need both!

It’s one of the best AMA episodes so far. That's because of the microphone they used!

Excellent AMA, I'm going to wait to send my 18NR until the dust settles a bit. Don't want to let Don get buried in Maz chassis'. 😎

Pit bull Audio In National city Ca has a Maz 18 Jr MK 11 and a Z-PLus. Finally somebody in San Diego carry' s Dr Z amps! Great video BTW. The new Improvements to the Maz 18 are excellent. I can def relate to the reverb issue on the originals. The one thing I like about my VIbro King is that lush reverb. The new reverb on the MK11 sounds awesome Doc! You can here the dwell effect and the overall improvement on the new maz. Those power tubes are much better as well.

I got mine updated, (an 18 NR) and the MV improvement is staggering. Same with the effects loop. It made a great amp indispensable. The voicing is even sweeter than before (You can hear it in the demo but in person it's really apparent). I love the Maz 18NR WAY MORE BETTER (!). And if I need it I have a Z-Verb to plug into but the thing sounds so full without it that I don't miss reverb.

You might want to check with Peach Guitars - they are one of Doc's largest EU (is England still in the EU???) dealers. John will know if it is available.

How much does it cost to have your maz updated? Also the new one seems to have loads more gain than mine and mines a NR.

What am I missing...I don't see a Mk II reference anywhere on that page. Also, the 6n14n's probably aren't included in the mods listed on that page (at that price, at least).

On that page: MAZ 18: Any 2014 and earlier (incl. w/ attached AC cord) $199 Reverb, master volume, and voicing update These are the updates that prompted Z to go to the Mk II designation.

Thanks Mike. I suppose I'm mostly looking at the NR model (what I have). I see a voicing update, but no reference to the MV change (or a MK II reference). Also, I'd guess tubes would not be covered in this price.

Interesting that any 2014 and earlier Maz can be sent in. My 18 is from 2015, yet it does not have the latest changes. To be honest it doesn't bother me as I like the amp just the way it is, but I'm curious....of course being in the UK I can't send it in anyway!

I have a 2011 NR, and Don did the upgrade to MKII about 2 months ago. He upgraded the MV which is IMO more linear in the ramp up in volume and drive of the power side. They also updated the effects loop. They replaced some old fuses - original from 2011! and found a noisy tube in P1. I already had the 6n14n tubes from Perry. Definitely like the updates. I still use a BLite on 2 with MV about 11-12 and V about the same. Has a nice cleanish tone to it. I play mostly P90 or G&L Singles - the MFD pickups. HB's ramp up the grit nicely too, with really good definition. With that and freight I think it was under $300 for everything.

The MKII sounds a little meatier, and the Master Volume is on par with the Level control on the Cure. It's an amazing upgrade. In two words, "Do it!" I pulled the Brake Lite out of the Maz 18NR VII and put it in my Z-Wreck. The MV upgrade is that good.
