I'm using what Dr Z recommended to me, what shipped out in New Z28s for the last few years of their production. -Shuguang 5AR4 -pair of JJ 6V6S(I got the double mica ones, for less rattling potential) -Tung Sol 12AX7 reissue -Winged C EF86
I'm a big proponent for NOS tubes. I run NOS in every vintage amp I get. But the Z28 isn't vintage, was designed, per DrZ, around those new production tubes and I think it sounds great. The Z28 I had years ago, I ran NOS(RCA 6V6s, JAN GE 5751, Tesla EF806S). They didn't justify the extra $$$ IMO in this amp tonewise. Sure they would have lasted longer though.

I really want to try the winged c ef86. Do i need to re bias the amp if I change for the winged c Ef86?

No rebias needed for the EF86 or 12AX7/5751. Plug and play for those 2.

I was planning on trying the winged c but couldn’t pass up the Dario’s as I hear they’re hard to come by.

I'd love to try a Dario. I paid @$50 for a NOS Tesla EF806S High Grade that sounded awesome, but went microphonic after about 6 months. I know that's always a risk with this tube, but I hate spending that money on something that can crap the bed whenever. The Winged Cs sound good enough at about $25 a pop.

I have some reservations. I only went for the nos cuz it’s Dario. I was close to buying a winged c to try it out. Gonna see how the Dario’s compare to my nos amperex e80f I’ve had in my amp for the past 2-3 years. That tube is a tank!!

Like my entire tube compliment....good enough for the Doc, good enough for me! Plus, I wanted 2 of them, 2 complete sets of tubes. Backups. I'd love to try a Dario. I’m still running Doc’s setup and have a couple winged C ef86 as backup. Amp sounds great so no need to mess with it.
