I know folks traditionally think of the Hi input for single coils and the Lo input for humbuckers, but are there any fans of Lo input for Strats etc (single coils). I was noodling last night plugged into Lo and there was a nice quality to it. A bit clearer or brighter perhaps, or maybe a little less in the mids, don't really know as it was very quiet playing. I haven't had a chance to try it on a gig yet, but if last night was any indication, it seemed the Strat was a bit more expressive. Maybe I'm dreaming'...

I almost exclusively use the lo input with my G&L Legacy. I don't know what it is, but I preferred it particularly for indoor gigs. Outdoors I leaned a little more to the high input, but not always.

It always seemed to me like the Fender Hi/Low inputs were a waste. Maybe it's just me but I always sensed a tone suck in the Low input to my Fenders. Doc's amps don't do that and I would really like to find out if it's just prejudice on my part or if it's real.
Anyone else notice this? Did your Fender Low input suck tone? All that said, I like to plug a footswitch into the second input jack so I can switch between the two input sensitivities. That's really cool and useful.

I plug humbuckers, P90s, and single coils into the high input. Just sounds best, and right, to my ears.

If I'm not mistaken not only is there less gain with the Lo input but also the input impedance is different which changes the bandwith of your signal.

I use the low on my Maz for everything as l prefer its drive ”texture" when output tubes are working especially with humbuckers. I find it too raspy on the hi input YMMV.

I use the low input a lot for single coils with the 12 string and the Baritone.
Input 2 on the old Fenders can be really useful. It's the only way you could actually use a Bassman or a Showman with a bass guitar. That's how it used to be done. That input is padded down 6 dB
