In your Z28? Is it kinda the 12" equivalent of the Z10" speakers?
I had a 2x10 combo with those for years. Traded it, missed it, bought another Z28 1x12 combo. I have a WGS Reaper HP in it, and like it. But, I recently listened to a clip I recorded years ago with the old one and, I thought it sounded better than my current one. Same tube compliment, same heavy cab, same 28mA, 65% bias setting. I know the difference between a 2x10 and a 1x12, but am wondering if a speaker change might get me closer. And wonder if the Z12 could be the ticket.
Thoughts? Any experience with the Z12 in a Z28, I would love to hear it.

I had a Z28 2X10 and currently have a Z28 head along with a Z-Lux combo with the Z12. I remember the bottom end on the 2X10 being really stout. I just tried the 28 through the Z12 and it doesn't have that same big bold bottom. It's not loose but just not as full sounding.
I actually run my Z28 through a WGS ET65 in a Z 1X12 cab and it's big, tight and punchy. I've never had a chance to hear the Reaper so I can't compare it there.
Overall, the Z12 is great in the Z-Lux but I don't think I'd swap it for the ET65.

Thx. That is helpful. The Z10s and 12s must be different speakers.
I'll do some research on how the ET65 and the Reaper HP differ.
I think the Reaper HP is great, just different. It's a British type, kind of a higher powered Celestion G12H30 Anniversary. I've always preferred American voiced speakers, have never been a Celestion fan. Hated the Greenback in it. The HP has tons of lows and though tight, still think it can be too much. Highs are nice, mids subdued which helps the mid heavy Z28. The Greenback was way to middy IMO, with no headroom. Sounded good clean, turned to mush cranked. Have been considering the Eminence SC GA40 Alessandro too.

I am using Doc's Z12 speaker in my 1x12 cab with Z-28 head. After hearing a Z-Lux and discovering that same speaker is available to try with my Z-28 I had to try it. This Z-28 + Z12 is the best combination I've tried over the years; including Doc's 10's, 12" greenback, 12" Gold and 12" H30 among others. To use Doc's words, the Z12 is more balanced than a Greenback or H30 and fits great with the Z-28. I'd say it brings out even more of that 'American' vibe of the Z-28 and is not overwhelmed by the 28's mid's. I'd not say the Z12 is like Doc's 10's, I'd say it is way better and one you really must try.

I have a ZLux with Doc's 12 in it. I like the voice alot, very balanced with good bottom end. More an American voice, smooth too. my 2 cents, Todd
