After getting my I-35LC a few years ago, I always wished it was a full, 335 size instead of slightly smaller. (15" body not 16"). I always wanted to try a SoCo, but never saw one face to face. The other day I found one, NOS. A 2012 never bought at Willcutt Guitars. I had be thinking about ordering one to my exact spec's. ( Pickups & cosmetics ) I called and Eric told me it was top to a year wait on a Collings electric these days. I decided to pull the trigger on this one too see if I even liked the model. And/or if I wanted to order one and send this one back. Upon it's arrival last week, first 3 minutes, I knew this one was a keeper! HOWEVER....you know me, I wanted to change a few things. This one has Lollars. in 2012 they had not started upgrading with Throbak's publicly. The Lollar Imperials actually sound great in this one, but I want my Throbaks and a few more personalized cosmetics. I just sent it back to the factory for the Throbak upgrade and some black plastic. Changing the theme from the cream pickup rings to black rings. Also adding a black pickguard, knobs and black/white/black truss rod cover. Dig this guitar. Will dig even more upon it's return from the mothership.... Here it is before. Will update when it comes home.

I see a Gibson is being culled in favor of this guy, Mark. That 335 of yours is a lovely axe, so this Collings must be incredible.

Great guitar for sure. Gets more play than my 335 most days, and was the reason for selling my Gretsch Black Falcon. The filtertrons give a cool vibe and tone more along the gretsch route than the 335 so my Gibson isn't going anywhere.

Did you also get Emerson PIO caps installed? Should be interesting w the blackout scheme. How did the neck compare to your other Collings and last question- are you going to seek out the 335 in a year or two like your previous 290 and LP?

Necks are all very comparable. I don't plan on seeking out another 335 in the future...but never say never. But thanks for pointing that out bud.

Just curious bro. I know you like what you like and sometimes miss them after they're gone. This SoCo must be off the hook b/c it's getting the markT treatment and moving the 335 along. Can't wait to hear some clips upon it's return and more importantly see the difference in the trim out.

Very nice guitar, congratulations Mark. I wish I could try a Soco or a I-30LC myself, but quite difficult here in Paris! Enjoy and let us know what you'll think about the upgrades you ask for.

My I35lc came in that same color/fit. Noticed I was putting some wear where a guard should be, so I got the black guard/pickup rings. Looks like this now. Hope you’re as pleased with yours as I am with mine!

Collings are fabulous guitars. I absolutely love my I-35LC (plain top walnut with Lollar Low Wind) and my 290 (wraparound and Lollar P90). Best instruments I've had (and the only ones I kept actually). I already said it around here, but for me Collings is to guitars what Dr Z is to amps: simple, elegant, reliable and extremely well made pieces of gear.

Got my SoCo back from Collings about 2 weeks ago. It took 2 months, but well worth it! The Throbak's sound great and look much better to me. I dig the black plastic too. The pickguard makes it for me. This is not a great photo, but you get the idea~
