Hey fellas, I thought I'd let you all know why my back's killing me right now...I spent the morning swapping speakers out of a 2x12 Avatar open back cab! The amp I used for testing is my Z-Wreck, and I learned a lot today. Started out with a G12H30 and a Texas Heat, sounded pretty good. Then the G12H30 and a Creamback 65, not so good. Tried two Creamback 65s and it was okay but kind of flat. It might be my ears, but it lacked presence. So I dropped in a Vintage 30 with a Creamback, and just about tore my face off with treble. Really not a good combo for me! Next I did the G12H30 with a V30, but that really didn't work in the Avatar cab. That surprised me, since it's one of Doc's favorite combinations...but Doc's using his cabs, not an Avatar. That must account for the difference, because I have yet to come up with something that beats what Doc prescribes! I'll know more when I get the Anniversary package delivered next week. The Texas Heat with a Creamback was just ok. So I dug deeper and found an old Carvin V12 speaker that I've had for years, sitting on a shelf in a box. I put it in with a Creamback and wow, very nice combination. Nice tight bottom end, good up front mids and a nice sparkle on top. Love it, plus it's about 3dB quieter than just the single 1x12 Z cab I run with a Gold open back. I'm considering using it at Praise Band tomorrow morning, but I think the Gold will mic up better than a 2x12 combo. The 1x12 is still my favorite, but the Creamback/Carvin combo is a close second. It really surprised me. Now where did I put that Ibuprophen???

I just went through that. Glad you found a combination you enjoy.
