Not sure I'm asking this the right way. Does the unit boost the front end of the a bit when its engaged, kind of like an echoplex does.

When engaged the reverb Tone control does effect the amp tone to me but when disengaged I hear no difference. It doesn’t boost like and old EchoPlex.

I might say the ZVerb adds a bit of compression to a signal and softens the input a hair.

It's got to go through the circuit, since with the Z-Verb turned off, there's no signal being passed through the reverb unit. So I'd say yes, it does go through a unity gain preamp. And that's bound to change things a bit for better or worse. I like it myself. It sounds alive.

I agree with Dave, it adds some sparkle and harmonic content. Like high quality tube driven clean boost on a very low setting.
