I am looking a buying a Galaxie amp, mainly country, fairly clean, maybe a bit of grit, the other alternative would be a Therapy. Brad Paisley has a vid a vid up using a Therapy, great sond as usual. Could the Galaxie get close?

The Galaxie will get you a Fender Tweed Super sound on channel one which sounds like what you are looking for plus you get the overdriven channel sound (my personal favorite).

Here's a pretty good demo of what it can do.

Galaxie = Fender Tweed Super .... in original form with non-master volume; two channels - channel one is a beautiful Fender Tweed clean that is well suited to a pair of Z 10s while channel two is a more gainy wild ride ......
.... the later mod'd Galaxie with a Master Volume for channel two eliminated the presence control ..... still a fun amp, but a bit different than original imho
And as per your initial post " fairly clean, maybe a bit of grit" .... yes, Galaxie will do that and a whole lot more imho (both the non-MV and MV models)
Therapy = from what I've seen/hear/read .... it comes with Master Volume already in place, a slight variation in wattage, also utilizes 6L6 tubes, and some specialty components ....... probably put you in a similar neighborhood as a Galaxie, but different ....
Just my thoughts ... ymmv .... etc etc etc
cheers always
Joel
edit: from the Dr Z web-site:
re THERAPY
The result is a cathode biased 6L6 based amp with the flavor of a low powered tweed Twin. It has a range of tones that will appeal to a wide audience and it includes a special design post phase inverter master volume which does not lose top-end definition at bedroom settings. Its output is a cool 35 watts with a tube rectified power supply.
Under the hood you’ll find the highest quality components throughout

... also, Galaxie has choice of triode or pentode ... i.e. you can run 30 watts via triode setting or 40 watts via pentode

Thanks Joey and Mike, I have 'reasearched' the thing to death, very little in the way of sound clips I can listen to but will probably go ahead and buy one. I had an Rx Junior for a few years which I enjoyed, getting to the stage where a head cabinet and speakers works best for me, the lighter the better,.....

I don't have a Therapy, but I do have a Galaxie that I used as my main amp for a few years. It's a great amp. Nice cleans on channel one and channel two can be heavy (Marshall territory). I think channel one would be good for country.
My amp has the master volume mod, so the channels can be dialed in to the same volume. One of the things I found was that when I'd get channel one dialed in the way I liked it, the EQ seemed to be too bass heavy for channel two. IMO it would be nice to have a separate EQ for each channel. Though if you're a pedal guy, you could do everything on channel one and just use the amp as a pedal platform for overdrives.
The amp is plenty loud at 40 watts. I played with a real loud drummer and and bass player and the Gal had no problems keeping up. I even used it to drive a Marshall 4x12 cabinet with no problems. But to me it really shines with an open back cabinet.

I own a Therapy and have played (and lusted after) several Galaxies. I see a lot of folks have already piped in with some really good descriptions but let me offer this. The Therapy is a very smooth amp and the cleans remind of Z28 territory. Thick, smooth, bold cleans and then moves into excellent smooth driving OD. Both tones are great, really great. Galaxie to me is more about hair. What I mean is that when it starts to break up the tone gets hairy before it goes into OD. The OD is not as smooth as the Therapy (not a bad thing, just different). I think this is why there are lot of comparisons to Fender Tweeds. Clean channel probably has more "spank" than a Therapy you could even call it more percussive. The Therapy has an awesome Master volume but really shines when you can get the output tubes pushed. A plus for the Galaxie is you can channel switch. Personally, as much as I like the Galaxie . . . I own a Therapy and if I had money for just one amp, the Therapy would probably be it because of the Z28 flavors that is there. Also, the Therapy is more "forgiving" than the Galaxie but still has Dr Z's amazing touch sensitivity. If you pick lightly, you get less volume, less gain . . . . if you dig in you get more volume, more gain. Same is true of the volume and tone controls. You really have a wide range of tones available with your own hands. my 2 cents, Todd

I'm a little late to this thread, but I had to get my Galaxie down for a compare. First, they are different and they respond differently. The Therapy has this touch sensitivity that is just incredible. The cleans are very organic and and 3D. It also has some of the richest, smoothest overdrives that you will ever hear. It really acts well to just turning down your guitar volume to get cleans. The Master is just fantastic as well. If you can get the Master up to noon, the amp really opens up. It's just great!
The Galaxie is also a great amp and deserves its kudos as well. You can crank channel 1 and get that great "tweed" breakup, which is similar to the Therapy, but not nearly as touch sensitive or as rich or smooth as the Therapy. It cleans up well by turning down the guitar volume too. Channel 2 pushes the amp into Marshall territory. To my ears, it also seems to have the Marshall "mids" that are not as prevalent on channel 1. Also, it's almost like channel 2 is a cascading gain channel. I don't think it is, but it acts like it to me. The Galaxie has WAY more gain if you can handle the loudness of channel 2. I have a brake-lite in mine to tame it.
They are both great, but if you want that Therapy sound and feel, then you need to get a Therapy. If you need more gain, get the Galaxie, or wait for the Nova to come out.

I like 6L6's a lot. I just never bonded with my Therapy. I liked it, but couldn't love it. Maybe someday I'll grab a Galaxy.
