Hi folks. Come next fall, I may be having a surgery that will impact my ability to carry heavy stuff. Thinking ahead, I'm wondering if it is reasonable to take my Maz jr combo and build or buy a head box and some sort of cab. Anyone done this and what did you do for parts etc? Size and weight will be the concern...

Doc has taken a considerable amount of weight off of his cabinets by switching from 3/4" to 1/2" plywood. You could ask to see if they could sell you a new one?
A really big thing that you can do with your existing amp is to look into some NEO speakers. Switching from heavy Ceramic or Alnico magnets to NEOs can take as much as 6 pounds off the weight of each speaker.
I have some pretty severe back issues and have lightened every piece of my rig because of it. I've tried a lot of NEO speakers and the Eminence Tonkerlite and Lil' Texas are my favorites.

What is the current configuration of your combo, i.e., 1x12, 2x10, studio combo, lite cab, etc.?
What speaker(s) do you have?
Finally, what is the target weight you'll be able to carry?

Currently the Maz is 1 x 12 with a 30 some odd year old Fender speaker in it. (thinking of trying a WGS G12 c/s in there) Target weight..? No idea right now really, but 20 lbs per item would be safe i guess.

I think the only way you will get there is with a separate head and speaker cab since the head is listed at 32 lbs.

Also - look into a folding hand cart. There are some rally nice ones these days that stow away flat. You'd still have to lift stuff in and out of your vehicle, but wouldn't have to carry it around.

For sure. I just bought my second one of these, the first one lasted 3 years of heavy gigging and practice hauling. It's big enough to haul a Maz 18 combo, gig bag, pedal board, and music stand. Guitar in one hand, pulling this behind me...it works out great. And it folds to something like 3" flat. Magna Cart

Stairs are a no go, I'm still looking for a good solution there. I need a cart that'll fold up like mine does, since I don't drive a truck.
