Basically im trying to give my KT45 a Stangray mod in terms of giving it that clean sparkle but with a booming low end. If I can make it a little warmer too I'd like try some options. Even if it's just a matter of changing the SS rectifier to tube and a certain speaker pairing. Not looking to go crazy just want to tweak it's natural sound a bit.

I guess I would just work with tubes, cabinet, and speaker. So many variables there but maybe you’ve been down that road already.

since the amp has EL34s, i don't know if you're going to do better for sparkle with octal tubes. since it has an EF86 preamp, i'm not sure how warm it's going to get.

A speaker change is almost always the easiest and most effective first change you can make. What are you using with the amp now and what type of cabinet? It sounds like a G12H30 is where you need to go. Being a 30 watt speaker you might want to pair it with another speaker.
Or use an Eminence Wizard which is similar sounding and is rated at 75 watts.

I was on the same wavelength but I would try a pair of Golds or maybe Creambacks. Personally I love the British sound of the old Alnico Blues, and the Golds are as close as you can get and still cover the wattage you're pushing with that amp.

Speakers do have a HUGE impact! But, don't forget that tube brands vary. I'd also go here... Tubes! and snag a couple different EF86 to play with and the same with the 12AX7-ish types for your phase inverter spot. Also, one more important factor is...what pickups are you using? That's just as significant as a speaker swap as is open and closed back in regard to speaker cabs. If you want a little more sparkle...use an open back to retain the low end while emphasizing the highs. The KT45 is one I haven't had open on my bench so I don't know, but I'm guessing (by the low end I hear in demos) that it likely isn't employing negative feedback tapped off the output transformer or that would be one other area of "sparkle influence" to explore if you're knowledgeable in that area. P90 pickups would be nice to sample through it. Search KT45 demos on YouTube and see (or rather hear) the differences others' guitars make in the stock amp. Brad

Katie has been the last one to arrive, but she’s getting lots of love and care. After first trying a 2x12 open back loaded with G12M Creambacks and a 1x12 with a Gold, my go-to speaker and cab is a 1x10 Dr Z loaded with an Eminence Ramrod. My quest was over. Just my 2c. Tons of tone!!!

Thanks for all the responses you guys! I guess I should give a little more background on my setup PRS Custom 22 with Dragon II pickups which run a little hot on the bridge, but I'm looking to switch to Bare knuckle Riff Raff set, neck and bridge around 7-8k. I use a 1X12 Dr. Z cab semi open that has a Celestion 65 Heritage. asked the doc about some mod ideas, he suggested a 65 Creamback and swapping my rectifier to a 5U4GB for more sag. I ordered a NOS Tung-Sol 5U4GB but have not swapped yet. Really looking into getting another speaker (I really like 1x12 setup for the amount of hauling I do with my setup). I love Golds but for the price difference how do you guys feel about the 65 Creamback instead? I'm really curious about Eminence speakers as well, since I see so many recommendations for the brand, but I am really unfamiliar with their line. Do you guys have any suggestions of a Eminence 1x12? or any other speaker in a 1x12?
