Hi! Just wondering if the EMS is too much amp for the small to mid-size venues I normally play. I do have an Air Brake. I am currently running a Cure for my dirt and another amp (non-Z ) for cleans. Was thinking of running just the EMS and using the volume knob to clean things up. Classic rock cover band, Les Paul player mainly. Cheers,Mike.

You'll definitely need the air brake in my experience for smaller venues.
I just wanna take this thread as an opportunity to say that leaving the EMS clean and using my Wampler pinnacle deluxe to get distortion has yielded awesome results where volume is an issue. Yeah it's not the EMS's natural distortion in JCM800 mode but it has saved me at smaller venues.

Just buy a Powerstation. You can play your big amps in small venues, small amps in big venues, mix and match cabinets and impedances, etc. It really is the best $700 I've ever spent on gear. Ever.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yeah, I kinda figured it would need to be attenuated. Decisions!!!

IMO, the master works so good you don’t really need anything else. I mean, if I absolutely needed to, I could turn it down low, and with a few adjustments, it sounds almost identical to how it does full on with the Power Station. I feel it is not necessary to have the PS, just gives you a few more tone shaping options and of course, the loop.
I think one of the things we look for is that huge sound you only get when the amp is turned up and you get the speakers working, really moving some air. I mean, who doesn’t love thatvfeeling and that sound? But, that will never happen if you need to be quiet, regardless of amps or attenuators. Bottom line, you need to like the sound of the amp. And the EMS is a great sounding amp.
