That the Z-Lux is pretty sensitive to the Reverb Driver tube, V3, a NOS 6201? I noticed that my Z-Lux wasn't sounding up to snuff today and started changing preamp tubes one at a time, and when I got to V3...bingo. The amp's back to it's old sparkly fat goodness. I'm interested to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Yup. I agree, completely. As a matter of fact, Dr. Z has changed his recommended tube for V3. Originally, he specified a NOS 12AT7 which he's since changed to a NOS 6201. Yes, I know the 6201 is just a higher grade, more rugged version of the AT7, but the change in indicative of the necessity to have a quality tube in that position. Fortunately, the 6201s still seem plentiful and inexpensive. I just bought two of them for $10 each from tube depot. One of the ones I got is an early "triple mica" version, and that's the one that went into V3. Cheers!

Does this quiet the reverb down?

Mine sounds so good, I've not tweaked a thing except the panel knobs....Pretty pleased....

I just got this new tube from Tube Depot. It’s got 12AT7WA on it. On the box is written 6201. It seems to work fine. The one I replaced from the Z-Lux did say 6201 on it. Are they the same?

Here's a cut and paste from Doc's website on the Z-Lux recommended tubes
V1: First Stage, V2: Tone Stack Driver, V3: Reverb Driver*, V4: Reverb Recovery, V5: Tremolo, V6: Phase Inverter
*This tube must be a NOS 6201 NOT a new production ECC81/12AT7
So, is your tube NOS or new production? I guess therein lies the answer.

I’m familiar with the information you shared above. I bought the tube from Tube Depot like Scott Unzicker (see above). The tube is labeled 12AT7WA, and someone wrote 6201 on the box. I’m asking if a 6201 is the same thing as a 12AT7WA.

Here's a great rundown of the various flavors of the 12AT7: www.effectrode.com/signal-tubes/the-12at7-tube/Cheers!

Great news. I've got one of those 12AT7WA tubes myself, but mine wasn't marked 6201. Glad it's deliverin' the goods, Stephen!
