So, my trusty AC30H2 is just too heavy lately (with back issues last year, continuing on)...... I have a Stingray and Z-Best 1x12 cab with a Tone Tubby Alnico Red, that's been my "go to" amp for the past 2 years.
A Remedy (FT/FS) just popped up on my local CL and I thought about making a trade offer of my AC30?? My question is this.... Can the Remedy get close to some of that magic AC30 "edge of breakup" tone?? I'm kind of looking for something different, that will play nice with my 1x12 Z-Best cab, and work in a live/band setting..... Really wanted a Maz Jr, but not having any luck finding one (locally). But then seen this Remedy.
Also, is it a good pedal platform?
I'm not a fan of "Fender" clean tone, I know this is "Plexi-based" but seen it compared to a Princeton clean tone.. but sometime it'd be nice to have something different than my Stingray (AC30-ish tones), but still able to cover some of the same ground.
Last question......Can it get "Tweed" type tones? I do like early "Tweed" tones, just not "Blackface" tones.

The Remedy is more in the Marshall Plexi camp than in the Fender camp. Definitely not a blackface (Tweed overtones maybe.) It does take pedals well.

It may be beneficial to ask if it has the EQ bypass and master volume - that will make it more versatile. Mine does not, but it is a great pedal platform and on 40 watts you have plenty of clean if needed.

I've been playing around with running my Remedy nearly wide open and turning the guitar way down, and I'm getting some fabulous edge of breakup tones with my Strat. I'm thinking if I changed V1 to a 5751 I might be right in that ballpark all the time, even with the guitar turned up more. That amp has a very cool tone, and a ton of flexibility with the way the front end is set up.

Is the Remedy a good semi clean platform? Absolutely! Blackface=NO Tweed=YES The Remedy has considerably more midrange than a Stangray. (I've had both) The edge of breakup tones/feel may be different than an AC30. Not better or worse, just different because the design of the amp is different. And switching from the 'ray's ef86 preamp tube to the Remedy's 12ax7 tube is also quite a bit different. Yes, you should see if the Remedy has the master volume and eq mod. I had a TT alnico red for a few days...it is definitely a darker sounding speaker. That will go REAL well with a Stangray...and probably well with a Remedy. But the overwhelming winner to match with the Remedy is the Creamback M speaker. So if you do buy the Remedy but don't necessarily care for the speaker, try a creamback M. Jim Marshall's amps copied the Fender tweed bassman design. That's why those amps sound and feel so similar. Leo Fender changed things a LOT with the introduction of the blackface amps...but the original tweed/Marshall design lasted a lot longer in England. And unless you have some custom build or a one-off....there is no such thing as a 1x12 Z-best. The Z-best is a 2x12 ported cabinet. (Neither closed back, nor open back) drzamps.com/product/z-best/

In 40 watt mode I put the high volume at around 9 two ten o'clock and the low volume knob off or just around 7. I get really beautiful clean tone that way. My guess is it would be kind of like a Tweed twin or a Tweed Bassman. But if you turn that low up a little bit and the high knob a little bit you get into cranked Tweed Deluxe territory or cranked Tweed Bassman territory. I like that a lot! When you put those knobs up around noon and past noon... Oh my God.. So many great tones out of this amplifier. The touch sensitivity and sustained is unbelievable. Just to the edge of feedback as you play... If that's what you want
