I'd say I run the Z-Lux at 40 watts 98% of the time, and it's been neigh on a year since I ran her at 20. Last night's gig (private party here in Austin) necessitated a lower volume level, hence I ran at half power. Once again, a sound guy was extremely complimentary on both the tone and perfect volume level of the Z-Lux. Well done, Doc. You made the perfect gigging amp. Here's a shot from last night:

I dig the white chicken head knob on the Master, Scott. Looks like there might be one on Volume too, but hard to tell behind that (nice)Tele.

I did that because white chicken heads are much easier to see, and the controls with which I'm most likely to fiddle during the gig (along with the tremolo knobs). And thanks re: tele. It's an '01 Custom Shop '51 Nocaster. What you don't see is the "improvised" boost control knob I have on the back. I use a little boost with single coil guitars, but find I don't need it with humbuckers.

Oh no, beers on top of the Lux, and no coasters!

I'm doing the same thing with the Z-supplied foot switch. Pretty much always on a bit under half way with single-coil guitars. I sit it on top of the amp, so I can switch it off if needed.

I can’t get over how low your EQ is. I’m going to have to start all over again!

At least it’s Shiner Bock - oldest brewery in Texas! And I think I see a coaster under it...

Man, even at 1/2 power that must be pretty loud. I keep my volume around the same but I never seem to get my master over about 9:00, It looks like your MV is cranked. Though like you I mostly use full power, I used to use 1/2 power a lot and I still seemed to set it around the same.
I’m thinking I just lose my nerve around 10:00, I can’t try it in my apartment, does it get much louder past that or just does it just open up even more?

Ampedup - After about 4 o'clock on the master, it opens up more than getting much louder. That's a subjective observation, I know, but that's the best I got. Coincidentally, we did another private gig this weekend where I used the 20 watt setting, and, once again, the sound guy was very complimentary. Cheers!

I can’t get over how low your EQ is. I’m going to have to start all over again! I also have settled on quite low settings of the eq when I have the bypass engaged. I run that at slightly less than 50% (via the foot switch knob). The eq is still effective, but you're starting from a different base than when there's no bypass involved.

Do you guys usually crank the master like that and adjust volume and gain from that point with the amps volume control? I have a z-lux and never really tried to gig with it that way, but i might try it this friday.

The master only goes up to 5 o'clock, so your talking about what happens between 4 and 5?

Bump to repeat my question. Apologies for the slow response! In short, yes. In my subjective opinion, the Z-Lux seems to open up a bit more between 4-5 on the Master Volume (with 5 o'clock being fully cranked). It always sounds good, but I think just letting the power tubes do their thing unrestricted lends a bit more overall clarity.

I agree. Just seeing if we were on the same page. Thanks for clarifying.
